  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, analytical tools, and best practices for claims investigation, evaluation, management, and resolution.
  • Establish performance standards, metrics, and reporting requirements for internal staff, third-party administrators (TPAs), and service providers.
  • Review complex, catastrophic, occupational disease, and litigated claims and establish appropriate management strategies.

Claims and Litigation Management

Manage domestic and Canadian claims and litigation by:

  1. Developing and implementing best practices for claim investigation, analysis, resolution, and closure.
  2. Coordinating and overseeing litigation management protocols with the Office of General Counsel, Church legal counsel (Kirton & McConkie), local retained counsel, third-party administrators, insurance adjusters, private investigators, medical providers, and expert witnesses.
  3. Evaluating compensability, reserves, litigation strategies, and settlement opportunities.
  4. Negotiating claim resolutions and settlements, including disputed and high-exposure matters.
  5. Attending mediations, hearings, and trials as a Church representative when necessary.
  6. Ensuring injured employees receive appropriate medical treatment, benefits administration, and return-to-work support.
  7. Oversee and manage TPA performance, adjuster assignments, and program execution.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local workers’ compensation laws and regulations.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting workers’ compensation programs.
  • Coordinate audits, reporting requirements, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Maintain legally compliant claim documentation and records.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage workers’ compensation budgets.
  • Monitor claim reserves, loss projections, and funding requirements.
  • Assist with actuarial studies, loss forecasting, and risk prevention initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for cost containment while maintaining appropriate employee care and legal compliance.
  • Assist the Manager of Risk Retention and Insurance to provide the best workers compensation insurance option in each state and/or province for the Church and affiliated entities and ensure that all reports, audits and premiums required to maintain such coverages are filed, complied with and paid.

Risk Management and Loss Prevention

  • Partner with Health & Safety, Human Resources, Facilities, Welfare, and other Church departments to reduce injury frequency and severity.
  • Analyze claim and loss data to identify trends and emerging risks.
  • Support root-cause investigations involving serious injuries and fatalities.
  • Participate in enterprise risk assessments related to occupational injury exposures.

Training and Stakeholder Support

  • Coordinate and provide training to managers, supervisors, employees, ecclesiastical leaders, service providers, claims staff, and litigation assistants regarding workers’ compensation and claims-management practices.
  • Serve as the primary workers’ compensation subject-matter expert for Church departments and leadership.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Lead, mentor, and develop claims staff and vendor partners.
  • Establish departmental goals, service standards, and performance expectations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
