Why This Role Matters
The Associate Test Engineer is responsible for supporting the quality assurance and testing activities associated with Hansen CIS, a Java-based Customer Information System (CIS) and utility billing platform. This role will work closely with software developers, product managers, business analysts, and senior test engineers to validate application functionality, identify software defects, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software releases.
The ideal candidate will have experience testing complex web-based and enterprise applications, with a foundational understanding of software development lifecycles, quality assurance methodologies, and modern testing tools. The Associate Test Engineer will participate in functional, integration, regression, performance, and user acceptance testing activities across multiple product releases.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, execute, and maintain manual and automated test cases for Java and web-based enterprise applications.
- Validate application functionality against business requirements, technical specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Perform functional, integration, system, regression, and exploratory testing across browser-based applications, APIs, and backend services.
- Identify, document, and track software defects through resolution using Jira and associated workflow processes.
- Develop and manage test plans, test suites, and test execution cycles using Xray Test Management for Jira.
- Collaborate with development teams to reproduce issues, verify fixes, and validate release readiness.
- Execute database validation testing and data integrity checks using Oracle SQL queries.
- Support testing of RESTful APIs, web services, and system integrations between enterprise applications.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, retrospectives, and release planning activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the software testing and quality assurance processes.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of test documentation, knowledge base articles, and release validation procedures.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience testing Java-based applications and browser-based web applications.
- Working knowledge of Oracle databases, including the ability to create and execute SQL queries for test validation and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile development methodologies.
- Experience using defect tracking and project management tools such as Jira.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
You will also have
- 1-3 years of software quality assurance or software testing experience.
- Experience using Xray Test Management, Zephyr, or similar test management platforms.
- Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, or similar API testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with test automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent technologies.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and release management processes.
- Exposure to utility billing, customer information systems (CIS), ERP, or enterprise software solutions.
- Understanding of performance, load, and integration testing methodologies.
- Experience working within Scrum or Agile software development environments.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for software quality, attention to detail, curiosity in understanding complex business processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams. They will contribute to improving product quality, reducing defects, and ensuring reliable delivery of Hansen CIS software solutions to utility customers.
