The posting

Company Description Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We build, power, and evolve the tools and technologies that connect millions of entrepreneurs with millions of buyers around the world. As an Etsy employee, you will tackle unique, meaningful, and large-scale problems alongside passionate coworkers, all the while making a rewarding impact and Keeping Commerce Human.

We believe exceptional companies are built by exceptional teams, and we're intentional about it. That means hiring great people, setting them up for success from day one, and giving them real reasons to grow their careers here. We invest in development that goes beyond promotions, and we foster the trust and relationships that help people do their best work together.

What’s the role?

We're looking for a Policy Enforcement Manager to drive enforcement consistency, help us stay ahead of emerging risks, and work alongside key stakeholders to keep our team operationally ready for launches, policy rollouts, and enforcement developments. This is an individual contributor role within our global Trust & Safety organization.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Manager, Content Compliance.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

Etsy's Content Compliance team sits within our global Trust & Safety organization. We focus on meeting regulatory requirements, enforcing against illegal items, and making sure the items sold on Etsy don't lead to physical harm. We're looking for a Policy Enforcement Manager to drive enforcement consistency, help us stay ahead of emerging risks, and work alongside key stakeholders to keep our team operationally ready for launches, policy rollouts, and enforcement developments.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Own policy enforcement and operations. Develop deep expertise in vertical policies and protocols, manage and report on enforcement activities, and lead implementation when policies, taxonomy, or workflows change.
  • Champion the seller experience. Own the seller-facing side of enforcement, ensuring communications are clear, educational, and consistent. Advocate for fairness in enforcement decisions and help sellers understand and navigate policy expectations.
  • Drive consistency and quality. Identify and close gaps in how policy is applied across the team, develop guidance for gray-area decisions, and build the frameworks that help enforcement specialists make sound, consistent calls.
  • Own appeals and customer concerns. Take point on high-priority cases and seller escalations, coordinate with Legal, Comms, and Brand, and rotate on-call to resolve critical events as they arise.
  • Keep a tight loop with partners. Maintain tight feedback loops with Policy, Product, and Engineering, surfacing trends from enforcement and seller outcomes that inform roadmap decisions, policy refinements, and tooling improvements.
  • Surface risks and shape solutions. Spot emerging abuse trends early, conduct data-informed analyses including post-mortems and deep dives, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Mentor and develop the team. Advise Enforcement Specialists on gray areas, difficult decisions, and their professional growth.
  • Lead a strategic business area. Own one or more focus areas within our Ops vertical, with a primary emphasis on seller experience, communications, and enforcement consistency, with some exposure to QA, training, and process improvement.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Bring 5+ years of experience in Trust & Safety, policy enforcement, compliance, or risk at a technology or marketplace company.
  • Experience owning seller or user-facing programs and communicating complex decisions clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to build scalable enforcement frameworks and drive consistency and quality across operations
  • Strong cross-functional project management and stakeholder partnership skills across Policy, Legal, Product, and Communications
  • Sound judgment and ability to make high-stakes decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced situations. Strong communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills across remote and global teams.
  • Proficiency in SQL or other data-querying tools, with experience using Trust & Safety tools and platforms
  • Familiarity with marketplace or platform compliance and relevant legal or regulatory requirements

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
