What’s the role?
As the Senior Manager, Product Research, you will be responsible for leading a group of qualitative and quantitative product researchers who influence company strategy by deeply understanding Etsy’s buyers and sellers, our cross-marketplace experience, and the evolving e-commerce landscape. You’ll work across a range of buyer and seller-facing initiatives, partnering closely with product, design, analytics, and engineering to translate deep human understanding into meaningful product direction. You'll be a researcher, people leader and a strategic thought partner — someone who can develop researchers, execute research and champion a high bar for research quality, and influence how the organization thinks about our product experience at scale.

What does the day-to-day look like?
- Lead a team of 3+ product researchers, mentoring them on quantitative and qualitative research methods, stakeholder management, effective communication, and career development
- Define and manage a research portfolio that shapes long and short-term research strategy, ensuring the team is focused on the highest-impact questions
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders in Product, Analytics, Engineering, and Design–as well as managers in other insights disciples (Analytics, Market Research, Research Ops)--to determine research needs and synthesize insights
- Apply innovative research techniques and explore new ways to deliver rich insights in a fast-paced environment, including responsible and effective integration of AI into research workflows
- Run your own research projects, staying close to the work and modeling strong research practice for your team
- Partner with other research managers to strengthen the broader team through shared tools, talent development, and knowledge-sharing
- Recruit and hire outstanding researchers and set them up for success through a thoughtful onboarding experience
- Contribute directly to the Research team's overall strategy and focus areas

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- 7+ years of experience in applied product research
- 3+ years previous management experience, developing and motivating a high-performing research team
- Strong quantitative research skills, including survey sampling, questionnaire design, and data analysis
- A track record of influencing decision-making at a senior level, with a strong point of view and action-oriented research that moves organizations forward
- You balance rigor and speed-to-learning, and guide your teams on research plans and methodologies that do the same
- A natural connector who builds trust and collaborates fluidly across functions and levels of seniority
- You have a growth mindset, and lead with curiosity and a continuous learning approach
- A clear perspective on where the research discipline is headed — and a desire to help shape what great research practice looks like at Etsy
- Experience working in e-commerce, B2C, or dual-sided marketplaces is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.
Etsy uses two geographic pay zones to reflect the labor markets where we compete for talent: one called Geo-1, covering the New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area, and one called Geo-2, covering all other U.S. locations. Salary ranges for this role vary by zone and are listed below.
Location
We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office. Salary Range:
• Geo-1: 206,000.00 - 278,000.00 USD Annual
• Geo-2: 185,000.00 - 251,000.00 USD Annual
