Functieprofiel SEH-arts SEH-arts Vooraan bij de acute zorg! Als SEH-arts weet je nooit wat jouw dienst voor jou in petto heeft. Een drukke of juist rustige dag is op voorhand niet te voorspellen evenmin als wat voor patiënten je te zien krijgt. Elk moment van de dag kan er een telefoontje komen van de cpa (centrale post ambulancevervoer) die meldt dat er over 5 minuten een ambulance binnenkomt met een patiënt. Wat doet een SEH-arts? Als urgentiearts werk je op de afdeling spoedeisende hulp (SEH) van een ziekenhuis. Doorgaans heb je te maken met patiënten die in een levensbedreigende situatie verkeren. Op het moment dat een patiënt binnen wordt gebracht, stel jij de eerste diagnose en bepaal je vervolgens de behandeling. Snel beslissen wat er moet gebeuren is dus een vereiste. Natuurlijk is het mogelijk om overleg te hebben met een medisch specialist, maar over het algemeen behandel je de patiënten zelf. Wie werken er op de spoedeisende hulp? Op de SEH werkt een team van SEH-artsen, SEH-verpleegkundigen, AIOS en ANIOS. Naast patiëntenzorg lever je een actieve bijdrage aan de opleiding van de SEH-artsen, HAIO's en andere specialisten in opleiding. Je wordt betrokken bij het inpassen van de opleiding in de dagelijkse organisatie van de SEH. In sommige ziekenhuizen ben je in avond-, nacht- en weekenddiensten de zogeheten 'voorwacht' voor de IC. Dit is veelal om de eerste 30 minuten te kunnen overbruggen als de conditie van een patiënt levensbedreigend is geworden. Daarna zal een opgeroepen intensivist de verdere werkzaamheden overnemen.
