The posting

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies delivers transmission, distribution, substation, and related power infrastructure projects across Canada and the United States.

Our work spans field construction, project delivery, operations, and corporate support in an environment where safety, execution, and reliability matter.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Procurement & Materials Manager, the Material Coordinator provides project-level materials coordination and execution support for a large-scale transmission construction project located in the North Central Region of the United States. The project involves multiple structure types, wire types, multiple laydown yards, and dedicated assembly areas.

The Material Coordinator is responsible for coordinating material receipt, storage, tracking, staging, and delivery to ensure uninterrupted field execution. This role works closely with Construction Coordinators, Project Coordinators, and Quality Coordinators to ensure materials are available, compliant, traceable, and aligned with construction sequencing, while adhering to Company Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems.

This role does not own procurement strategy, purchasing authority, or commercial negotiations, which remain the responsibility of the Materials Manager and Procurement teams.

Core Responsibilities

Material Coordination & Field Execution Support

  • Coordinate receipt, handling, storage, and distribution of project materials across multiple laydown yards and assembly areas.
  • Support material staging and sequencing to align with construction schedules, crew needs, and structure installation plans.
  • Coordinate delivery of materials to active work fronts in collaboration with Construction Coordinators and field supervision.
  • Monitor material availability and proactively identify shortages, misallocations, or delivery conflicts that may impact execution.

Inventory Management & Material Traceability

  • Maintain accurate material inventories to prevent shortages, excess inventory, or material loss.
  • Track material movement between laydown yards, assembly areas, and work fronts using approved systems and logs.
  • Support material traceability requirements, including heat numbers, batch tracking, certifications, and compliance documentation, as required by Contract and Quality standards.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Coordinator to ensure material documentation supports inspection, acceptance, and turnover requirements.

Delivery, Logistics & Vendor Interface

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordination of material deliveries in alignment with procurement and construction plans.
  • Coordinate with logistics providers, approved vendors, and internal SCM teams to support timely delivery and proper material handling.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with vendors to resolve delivery, packaging, or documentation issues.
  • Support vendor-managed inventory processes where applicable, without assuming procurement authority.

Systems Reporting & Coordination

  • Utilize approved SCM, inventory, and project systems to track material status, quantities, and delivery milestones.
  • Provide accurate material status updates to the Materials Manager and Project Coordination team.
  • Support material-related inputs to project reporting, look-ahead planning, and schedule updates.
  • Ensure all material activities align with the purchasing strategy and procurement plan established by the Materials Manager.

Compliance, Procedures & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure material handling, storage, and documentation comply with Company standards, Contract requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain project-specific logs for specialty tools, equipment, and material certifications as required.
  • Promote adherence to SCM procedures and educate project teams on material request, handling, and documentation protocols.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in material flow, yard organization, storage efficiency, and coordination practices.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma required; certificate or diploma in Materials Management, Supply Chain, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • 3–5 years of experience in materials coordination, logistics, or supply chain roles supporting construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting large-scale linear infrastructure projects, including transmission lines, substations, or similar corridor-based construction, is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction material types, laydown management, and field logistics environments.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage material flow across multiple yards and work fronts.
  • Proficiency in inventory tracking systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to interpret bills of materials, packing lists, drawings, and delivery schedules.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate with construction, project, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Willingness and ability to work in remote project locations, embedded with operational teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
