The posting

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal / Senior Product Engineer to support product engineering and technical operations within the automotive semiconductor industry. The successful candidate will lead product industrialization, qualification, manufacturing readiness, and lifecycle management, ensuring products meet performance, quality reliability, and cost requirements from development through high-volume production.

Candidates with experience in automotive integrated circuit (IC) development within fabless semiconductor companies, combined with strong expertise in product engineering, automated test equipment (ATE), manufacturing operations, and reliability qualification, will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Development and New Product Introduction (NPI)

• Lead automotive semiconductor products through the complete development lifecycle, from tape-out and qualification to product release, production ramp-up, and mass production.

• Coordinate engineering builds, product characterization, pilot production, and manufacturing readiness activities.

• Work closely with Design, Test, Reliability, Quality, Foundry, and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) partners to ensure successful product industrialization.

• Support product release, manufacturing transfer, and production ramp-up activities.

2. Product Characterization, Validation and Debug

• Conduct product characterization, electrical validation, and performance evaluation.

• Support laboratory-based debugging and technical investigations for new products and customer-reported issues.

• Correlate laboratory measurement results with ATE results and production test data to ensure product performance and test consistency.

• Identify product performance gaps and drive technical solutions through cross- functional collaboration.

3. Product Lifecycle and Manufacturing Management

• Manage product engineering activities throughout development, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing.

• Lead initiatives to improve manufacturing yield, product quality, production efficiency, and overall cost competitiveness.

• Monitor product performance using manufacturing yield, reliability, quality, and field-performance indicators.

• Lead the technical evaluation and disposition of non-conforming materials through Material Review Board (MRB) processes.

• Manage engineering changes involving manufacturing processes, packaging, materials, test programs, test hardware, production sites, and supply chain arrangements.

• Support customer complaint investigations, structured root-cause analysis, 8D problem-solving, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

4. Product Qualification and Reliability

• Coordinate product qualification activities to ensure compliance with automotive semiconductor quality and reliability requirements.

• Work with relevant engineering and manufacturing teams to investigate reliability concerns and address qualification gaps.

• Support failure analysis, corrective actions, and reliability improvement initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.

5. ATE Test Program Development and Optimization

• Lead production ATE test program optimization to balance product quality, test coverage, throughput, and manufacturing cost.

• Collaborate with Design and Test Engineering teams to improve product testability and defect-screening effectiveness.

• Support test program correlation, qualification, release, and deployment into production.

• Drive test time reduction, multisite testing optimization, and test coverage enhancement.

• Analyze test performance and production data to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and defect detection.

6. Technical Support for Business Development

• Provide technical manufacturing input for new business opportunities, requests for quotation (RFQs), and customer engagements.

• Support product cost modelling, manufacturing cost assumptions, and technical feasibility assessments.

• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and commercial teams during quotation, project planning, and new product introduction activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, IC Design, Device Physics, or a related technical discipline.

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant semiconductor industry experience for Senior Engineer candidates or 8 years for Principal Engineer candidates.

• Relevant experience in Product Engineering, Test Engineering, Yield Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related semiconductor disciplines.

• Experience in semiconductor product development within a fabless business model and collaboration with external foundry and OSAT manufacturing partners is strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of semiconductor product development, manufacturing readiness, qualification, and high-volume production requirements.

• Demonstrated ownership, initiative, and hands-on problem-solving capabilities in a fast-paced, evolving technical environment.

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret engineering data, identify root causes, and make sound technical decisions.

• Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across global, multicultural, and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Technical Expertise

• Product engineering, new product introduction, and semiconductor product lifecycle management.

• Strong understanding of IC functionality, electrical specifications, system applications, and product performance requirements.

• ATE test program development, release, optimization, and production support experience; familiarity with industry-standard semiconductor test platforms is advantageous.

• Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing operations, including wafer sort, assembly, final test, reliability qualification, and quality control.

• Experience applying statistical methods to analyze product yield, electrical test results, and manufacturing performance.

• Familiarity with AEC-Q100 qualification standards and automotive semiconductor reliability requirements.

• Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D problem-solving, IATF 16949, and ISO 26262.

• Experience with semiconductor failure analysis techniques and root-cause investigation.

• Knowledge of advanced product screening and data analytics methodologies, including Part Average Testing (PAT), Statistical Bin Limits (SBL), clustering analysis, and statistical screening.

Key Success Factors

The successful candidate will combine strong semiconductor product engineering fundamentals with practical manufacturing and test expertise. The ability to drive cross- functional execution, resolve complex technical issues, improve product quality and yield, and support the transition from product development to reliable high-volume manufacturing will be essential to success in this role.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
