GM Performance Power Units - Concord, NC Controls Electronics Intern - Onsite Date of Internship: Summer 2027 Job Summary: GM Performance Power Units is seeking an undergraduate intern to support electronics equipment related to the engine control system. This role focuses on using design, engineering, and hands-on skills to perform tests and calibrations of modules, sensors, harnesses, and actuators used in the engine control system. Key Responsibilities
Help develop test plans, methods, and fixtures to test electrical harness, sensors, and actuators in a lab environment. Use problem solving skills, diagnostic tools, and reference data to diagnose challenges with both lab and engine components. Fixtures and harness items may need to be built to aid. Network within the organization to leverage and help other groups to grow the company’s capability. Report-out and document procedures, methods and learnings. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Mid- to upper-level student in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field. Proficient with Python and JavaScript languages or similar. Good communication skills and a collaborative, learning oriented mindset. Strong, hands-on engineering mindset with a bias toward building, testing, and iterating. Curious and motivated to learn at the intersection of race engineering, data science, and software. Able to work independently on well-defined tasks while asking timely questions when needed. Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teammates and incorporating feedback. Organized, detail oriented, and committed to clear documentation and high-quality results.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with time series data such as telemetry, dynamometer, or test cell measurements. Familiarity Internal Combustion Engine electronic controls. Exposure to Mil-Spec electrical harness designs and assembly. Experience using version control tools (e.g., Git) and collaborative development platforms. Prior project work that combines engineering domain knowledge with data analytics or machine learning.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move in diverse operational environments, including race shops, arenas, and commercial facilities. Comfortable working in variable environmental conditions, including loud, high-traffic, or high-pressure environments.
