About the role

The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for conducting routine chemical, physical, and metallurgical testing to support surface treatment manufacturing processes. This position ensures plating baths, anodizing lines, cleaning systems, wastewater treatment processes, and finished products comply with established specifications, customer requirements, and quality standards. The Laboratory Analyst plays a critical role in monitoring process stability, identifying abnormalities, supporting corrective actions, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory analysis of plating solutions, anodizing baths, chemical conversion coating baths, acid and alkaline cleaners, etching solutions, rinse water systems, wastewater treatment chemicals, and incoming chemicals and raw materials.
  • Conduct testing including pH analysis, conductivity testing, titration analysis, metal concentration analysis, acid concentration analysis, alkalinity analysis, chloride analysis, chemical contamination testing, and specific gravity measurements.
  • Monitor and analyze process parameters for electroplating, nickel plating, electroless nickel plating, zinc plating, tin plating, precious metal plating, anodizing, chemical conversion coating, passivation processes, and precision cleaning processes.
  • Conduct quality verification activities including coating thickness testing, visual inspection, surface finish evaluation, adhesion testing support, salt spray testing, humidity testing, immersion testing, microscopic examination, and surface defect analysis.
  • Collect samples according to established sampling plans, label and store samples properly, maintain sample traceability records, record analytical data accurately, and prepare laboratory worksheets and reports.
  • Operate laboratory instruments including pH meter, conductivity meter, analytical balance, spectrophotometer, XRF thickness measurement equipment, salt spray chamber, drying ovens, and laboratory glassware.
  • Maintain laboratory records including test reports, analysis results, chemical consumption records, calibration records, chemical inventory, inspection reports, and daily laboratory logs.
  • Support Laboratory Engineers and Quality Engineers by performing additional testing, assisting in failure analysis investigations, retesting suspect samples, collecting process data, and supporting corrective action activities.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures at all times, wear appropriate PPE, handle chemicals safely according to SDS requirements, report unsafe conditions immediately, and comply with environmental regulations and waste disposal procedures.
  • Participate in 5S activities, lean improvement projects, laboratory efficiency improvements, waste reduction initiatives, and process capability improvement projects

Job Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Applied Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or Manufacturing Technology
  • Preferred 1-3 years experience within laboratory
  • Experience in surface treatment manufacturing / precision engineering industry is preferred
  • Experience in chemical analytical laboratories is preferred
  • Fresh graduate with relevant laboratory internship experience are encouraged to apply
  • Familiar with basic SPC, 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, Control Charts, inspection techniques
  • Proficient of computer in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint

Salary range: Up to RM5k

Location: Senai, Johor
