Job Description

Indian River State College is seeking a passionate and student-focused Adjunct Instructor of Economics to inspire the next generation of learners through engaging and effective classroom instruction. In this role, you will teach Economics courses, develop meaningful learning experiences, assess student performance, and support student success through regular interaction and office hours. The ideal candidate combines subject matter expertise with a commitment to academic excellence, innovative teaching practices, and the ability to engage students.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic learning environment while helping students build the critical thinking and analytical skills essential for academic and career success.

**This position is open only to candidates who reside in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. ** Due to business and employment compliance requirements, we are unable to consider applicants who reside outside these states.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In-person classes;
  • Preparing, instructing and grading all class coursework;
  • Assigning final grades;
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Economics, or a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in Economics;
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written;
  • Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way;
  • The ability to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential;
  • The ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential;
  • The ability to develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ retention, persistence and program completion is essential;
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Preferred:

  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in Economics;
  • Two to five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructing assigned classes;
  • Grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments;
  • Assigning final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets;
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students;
  • Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
  • Participating in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
