The posting

About the Role

We are looking for a Manager – Data Governance & Risk to lead initiatives that strengthen how data is governed, managed and used across the organization while enabling informed, risk-based decision making.

This role sits at the intersection of Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality and Risk Management. The ideal candidate should have strong experience governing enterprise data and solid practical experience identifying risks, evaluating controls and recommending mitigation actions related to data, information or business processes.

The role requires a solid understanding of modern data platforms, Big Data environments, data pipelines and analytics, but it is not a pure Data Engineering or software development position.

You will partner with Data Engineering, Architecture, Information Security, Risk and Business teams to ensure data is reliable, properly governed and managed in accordance with risk, control and compliance expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement Data Governance practices, operating models and standards.
  • Assess risks associated with data assets, data quality, data usage and the data lifecycle.
  • Evaluate existing controls and recommend improvements or mitigation actions where needed.
  • Challenge Data Engineering and business teams regarding data quality, lineage, ownership and control effectiveness.
  • Define data quality metrics, governance standards and monitoring practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve data management and governance processes.
  • Identify data-related risks and translate them into clear business impact.
  • Use enterprise data and Big Data environments to support risk identification, analysis, monitoring and decision-making.
  • Support remediation of data quality, governance or control issues.
  • Partner with Risk, Information Security, Data Engineering, Architecture and Business teams.
  • Design executive dashboards, risk reporting and governance metrics.
  • Support data-driven decision making through analytics, reporting and risk-based recommendations.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Information Governance or related data functions, combined with solid experience in Risk Management, GRC or Controls.
  • Experience defining or implementing Data Governance frameworks, operating models or standards.
  • Experience working with metadata, data lineage, data stewardship, data catalog and/or data quality.
  • Practical experience identifying risks related to data, information or processes and recommending controls or mitigation actions.
  • Understanding of fundamental risk concepts such as likelihood, impact, controls, inherent risk and residual risk.
  • Experience collaborating with Data Engineering, Architecture, Risk, Security and Business teams.
  • Experience working with large-scale enterprise data environments, including exposure to data pipelines, ETL/ELT, data integration or Big Data processing.
  • Experience translating analytical, governance or risk findings into executive recommendations.
  • Experience working with international stakeholders.
  • Functional B2 English or above, with the ability to communicate effectively with US-based clients and stakeholders, explain technical topics and sustain professional conversations. Perfect grammar or C1 certification is not required.

Data Platforms

Practical exposure or strong working knowledge of one or more modern enterprise data platforms such as:

  • Databricks
  • Snowflake
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Teradata
  • Hadoop / AWS Glue or similar Big Data and data integration technologies
  • Similar cloud or enterprise data platforms

The candidate is not necessarily expected to develop production pipelines as a core responsibility, but should understand how data pipelines, ETL/ELT, integration and large-scale data processing work, and should have practical exposure beyond dashboards and visualization.

Ideal Profile

We are particularly interested in candidates coming from Data Governance, Data Management, Data Office, Data Quality or Data Analytics teams who have worked closely with Risk, Controls, Compliance, Audit or Information Security, or Risk/GRC professionals with strong practical exposure to Big Data, data pipelines and enterprise data environments.

Experience in risk may come from Data Risk, IT Risk, Operational Risk, Enterprise Risk or Financial Risk. A traditional Cyber GRC background is not required.

The strongest candidates will be able to demonstrate how they have connected Data and Risk in real projects—for example, using enterprise data to identify, analyze, monitor or mitigate risks.

We are not looking for:

  • Pure Data Engineers
  • Pure Data Scientists
  • Software Development profiles
  • Traditional Cyber GRC profiles with limited Data Governance or Data Management experience.
  • Data Stewardship / Data Governance profiles without meaningful Big Data or Risk Management exposure.
  • Risk / GRC profiles whose Data experience is primarily limited to Tableau, Power BI, dashboards or visualization.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
