Location: Puttalam Employment Type: Full Time Industry: Agriculture / Horticulture / Coir Products / Coco Peat Manufacturing & Exports

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and quality-focused Quality Controller to oversee product quality standards across raw material inspection, manufacturing processes, finished products, packaging, and export shipments. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting quality inspections, monitoring production standards, maintaining accurate quality control records, and ensuring that all products comply with approved specifications and international customer requirements.

This role is ideal for a quality control professional with strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining consistent product quality within the Coco Peat, Coir, Horticulture, or Agricultural Manufacturing industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality inspections of incoming raw materials, including coco peat, coco chips, coconut husk, packaging materials, and other production inputs.
  • Monitor critical quality parameters such as moisture content, Electrical Conductivity (EC), particle size, contamination, and physical characteristics.
  • Inspect and monitor production processes, including washing, drying, screening, mixing, compression, and packing, to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
  • Verify raw material mixing ratios, product consistency, and manufacturing standards throughout the production cycle.
  • Conduct quality inspections of grow bags, coco peat blocks, coco chips, and other horticultural products.
  • Verify product dimensions, weight, compression, expansion characteristics, moisture levels, and other customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Perform routine quality testing using EC meters, moisture meters, and other available quality control equipment.
  • Coordinate internal and external laboratory testing to verify product quality parameters, including pH, EC, moisture, and other relevant characteristics.
  • Inspect finished products, packaging, labeling, palletizing, and export consignments before shipment.
  • Ensure products comply with approved customer specifications, quality standards, and export requirements.
  • Identify, document, and report non-conforming materials or products and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate quality control documentation, inspection reports, testing records, and batch-wise traceability information.
  • Investigate quality deviations and customer complaints in coordination with Production and Management.
  • Coordinate with Production, Procurement, Stores, Logistics, and other departments to maintain consistent quality standards.
  • Inspect export containers, verify loading quantities, and ensure products are properly packed and approved before dispatch.
  • Monitor factory hygiene, storage conditions, contamination risks, and adherence to workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Prepare periodic quality control reports and provide recommendations for continuous process and product quality improvements.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, or relevant professional qualification in Quality Management, Agriculture, Agricultural Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications or training in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Laboratory Testing, or Manufacturing Quality Management will be an added advantage.
  • Previous experience in Quality Control or Quality Assurance within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience within the Coco Peat, Coir, Horticulture, Agriculture, Coconut-Based Products, or related export manufacturing industries will be highly preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of raw material inspection, production quality monitoring, and finished product quality assessment.
  • Familiarity with testing parameters such as Electrical Conductivity (EC), pH, moisture content, particle size, compression, and expansion characteristics.
  • Ability to operate quality testing instruments and maintain accurate testing and calibration records.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, product specifications, quality inspection procedures, and export quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of quality documentation, batch traceability, non-conformance reporting, and corrective action procedures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to identify quality deviations and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Good coordination and communication skills to work effectively with Production, Stores, Procurement, and Management teams.
  • Ability to maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, for quality reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple quality inspections, and meet production deadlines.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work in a factory or manufacturing environment and conduct regular production-floor inspections.
  • Ability to perform physical product inspections, sampling, and routine quality testing.
  • Flexibility to work according to production schedules and shipment requirements when necessary.
  • Strong commitment to product quality, workplace safety, and continuous improvement.
