About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Lead – Data Engineering to lead high-performing engineering teams in designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise-scale data platforms. This role combines technical leadership, architecture design, cloud engineering, team management, and stakeholder engagement to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in cloud data engineering, modern data architectures, ETL development, data modeling, AI-driven engineering practices, and Agile delivery methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead requirement gathering activities and translate business requirements into technical specifications, engineering tasks, and user stories.
  • Guide engineering teams in designing and developing scalable, cost-effective, and high-performance data solutions.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of complex data models, data pipelines, and enterprise data integration solutions.
  • Conduct impact analysis for upstream and downstream system changes and optimize platform performance.
  • Lead the development and adoption of AI-driven tools for pipeline testing, documentation generation, code refactoring, and issue resolution.
  • Direct end-to-end Software Development Life Cycle activities across data ingestion, transformation, integration, and consumption layers.
  • Integrate AI-powered monitoring, automated error management, and pipeline orchestration capabilities.
  • Oversee cloud infrastructure across GCP and AWS environments, ensuring security, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Participate in FinOps initiatives to optimize cloud utilization, platform performance, and operational costs.
  • Establish and promote engineering standards, automated testing practices, and CI/CD deployment frameworks.
  • Monitor platform reliability, system performance, operational costs, and team capacity against delivery objectives.
  • Lead production incident management, root cause analysis, and operational stability initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders to align technical and business priorities.
  • Maintain technical documentation, deployment guides, data mappings, and repository standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and support Data Engineers through technical reviews, performance management, and career development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Data Engineering, including at least 2 years of engineering team leadership experience.
  • Strong expertise in Python, SQL, and Shell Scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with Medallion Architecture, dimensional data modeling, and real-time data streaming.
  • Extensive experience working with cloud platforms, particularly GCP and AWS.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL design, development, and data integration solutions.
  • Experience with BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Run, GKE, AWS S3, Lambda, and related cloud services.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
  • Experience working with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar automation tools.
  • Knowledge of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience leading teams within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Exposure to API development will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, vulnerability management, compliance, and infrastructure governance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to collaborate with international teams and align working hours when required.
