Il Personale dell'esercito (Pers Es) accompagna i militari (mil) dal reclutamento fino al proscioglimento dal servizio militare. Il Comando del reclutamento è responsabile della selezione dei futuri militari e della loro attribuzione a una funzione adeguata (esercito o protezione civile). In tal senso vengono armonizzate nel miglior modo possibile l'idoneità e le attitudini delle persone soggette all'obbligo di leva e le esigenze dell'esercito. Fornisce appoggio nell'ambito degli esami sportivi presso il Centro di reclutamento Rüti ed è responsabile della registrazione dei risultati sportivi.

Il Comando Istruzione (Cdo Istr) è responsabile dell'istruzione in seno all'Esercito svizzero -- dal reclutamento all'istruzione di base generale fino all'istruzione dei quadri -- per quanto riguarda la milizia e i militari di professione. Comprende l'Istruzione superiore dei quadri, il Personale dell'esercito, cinque formazioni d'addestramento, il Centro d'istruzione e il Servizio specializzato Donne nell'esercito e diversity. Un terzo dei circa 2350 collaboratori è attivo in professioni civili in ambito scientifico, tecnico, medico, psicologico, amministrativo o sportivo e contribuisce al successo insieme ai militari di professione.

L'Esercito svizzero dà lavoro a oltre 9000 collaboratori nel quadro di quattro professioni militari e circa 200 professioni civili, in 110 ubicazioni su tutto il territorio nazionale. Inoltre provvede alle nuove leve, formando apprendisti in oltre 30 professioni.
