Das Eidgenössische Departement für auswärtige Angelegenheiten (EDA) koordiniert und gestaltet im Auftrag des Bundesrats die Schweizer Aussenpolitik, wahrt die Interessen des Landes und fördert Schweizer Werte.

Die Direktion für Ressourcen (DR) steuert den Einsatz von Personal und Finanzen zur Umsetzung der aussenpolitischen Ziele. Sie betreibt das weltweite schweizerische Vertretungsnetz. Die Direktion erbringt die für die Betriebsführung des Departements notwendigen Dienstleistungen im Bereich Logistik, Telematik, Führungs- und Controllinginstrumente. Die Rechtssetzung, Rechtsanwendung und Rechtsberatung des Departements gehört ebenfalls in den Aufgabenbereich der Direktion für Ressourcen. Ihr unterstellt ist zudem die Bundesreisezentrale, welche internationale Dienstreisen organisiert und einkauft.
