Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post\\-docs, post\\-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people. PSI is a pioneer in the field of proton therapy. It conducts technological and clinical research to optimize spot\\-scanning proton beam therapy and to expand the range of indications for proton radiotherapy. In addition to its research activities, PSI provides a clinical program for patients with indications approved for proton beam therapy within the Swiss health care system. At the Center for Proton Therapy CPT, deep\\-seated tumors are treated using two gantries, while ocular tumors are treated on a dedicated beam line. The medical physics research program focuses on advanced imaging, treatment planning, and proton therapy delivery.
