Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa's around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living. Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain.

Would you like to be part of a small research & support group at Empa and provide services to internal and external partners in academia and industry? Are you interested in delicate electron-optical instrumentation and motivated to maintain high-end electron microscopes and auxiliary equipment? Finding the cause of a technical problem in a device is a catchy challenge for you, like solving a puzzle? Have you ever desired to be part of an agile team and be able to plan your working day independently? If you think you are a good fit for this position, a welcoming working environment in an international and multidisciplinary research facility awaits you.

Your tasks ###

  • Responsible for the operation of the center's electron microscopes and the sample preparation facilities
  • Carry out preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and basic repairs of microscopy equipment
  • Coordinate more complex repairs and servicing with instrument manufacturers and external service providers
  • Introduction and training of users to the tools & methods
  • Participation in scientific projects
  • Provide electron-microscopy services to internal and external customers

Your profile ###

You bring along practical experience in the operation and maintenance of electron microscopes, as well as in related sample preparation methods. You are familiar with small electro-mechanical devices. You have a flair for details and perfectionism. You are eager to expand your horizon and to learn new characterization methods and applications thereof. Fluency in English (spoken and written) is mandatory, in German desired.

Our offer ###

We offer you a challenging and varied range of responsibilities in a dynamic, internationally oriented research environment where you can further develop your professional skills.

We live a culture of inclusion and respect. We welcome all people who are interested in innovative, sustainable and meaningful activities - that's what counts.

We look forward to receiving your complete online application including a letter of motivation, CV, certificates, diplomas and contact details of two reference persons. Please submit these exclusively via our job portal. Applications by e-mail and by post will not be considered.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
