The posting
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a 3D Electrical Design Engineer III based in United States.
This remote engineering role focuses on developing and coordinating detailed 3D designs for utility-scale solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects. You’ll create production-ready models that become the foundation for construction, making accuracy, constructability, and technical judgment critical to project success. The position combines electrical design expertise with advanced 3D modeling, multidisciplinary coordination, and project execution. You’ll independently lead significant portions of complex projects while managing multiple assignments and resolving challenging spatial and electrical design issues. Working closely with civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, and construction stakeholders, you’ll help deliver practical designs for large-scale renewable energy infrastructure. You’ll also contribute to quality assurance, design standards, modeling improvements, automation, and the development of other team members. The role offers an opportunity to make a direct technical contribution to the continued expansion of utility-scale renewable energy.
Accountabilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain complex 3D models, layouts, and renderings for utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects using Autodesk Inventor or comparable tools.
- Produce detailed, construction-ready 3D representations of battery storage systems, inverters, transformers, switchgear, cable management systems, equipment pads, racking, structural supports, and balance-of-system components.
- Design and resolve electrical layouts involving cable routing, conduit, cable trays, trenching, grounding, equipment clearances, cable management, and equipment interconnections.
- Own assigned project models throughout their lifecycle, maintaining organization, revision control, file management, and documentation integrity.
- Identify and resolve spatial conflicts, constructability concerns, and interface issues across civil, electrical, structural, and mechanical disciplines.
- Produce and review drawing sheet sets, technical details, documentation, and renderings derived from 3D models.
- Coordinate multiple concurrent PV and BESS assignments or significant portions of complex projects while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.
- Support scope development, level-of-effort estimates, schedules, resource planning, and technical assumptions for 3D design activities.
- Identify technical risks, coordination conflicts, and potential schedule impacts early and communicate recommended solutions to project leadership.
- Support fabrication, procurement, and installation planning by developing coordinated and constructible models.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of models, drawings, and design deliverables for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Review vendor- and client-provided models, identify discrepancies, and coordinate their resolution before incorporation into project designs.
- Ensure assigned work aligns with internal standards, client requirements, applicable industry codes, and jurisdictional regulations.
- Coordinate designers working on project deliverables, helping align their work with project schedules and priorities.
- Develop training materials, technical documentation, modeling standards, and lessons learned to promote consistent practices across the team.
- Participate in client design reviews and present models and visualizations while explaining equipment layouts, cable routing, and constructability decisions.
- Advise project managers and discipline leads on modeling strategies, sequencing, technical trade-offs, and design coordination.
- Contribute to modeling templates, libraries, automation initiatives, and emerging digital engineering workflows that improve design quality and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, design, drafting/CADD, a related technical discipline, or equivalent applicable professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design, technical design, or drafting for power generation, industrial, infrastructure, or comparable projects.
- At least 5 years of professional experience using Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D design software in a professional engineering or design environment.
- Demonstrated electrical design experience involving cable routing, cable management, grounding, equipment interconnections, and equipment layout for large-scale power generation or industrial projects.
- Experience coordinating design work across civil, electrical, structural, and related engineering disciplines.
- Experience producing and reviewing drawing sheet sets and technical documentation generated from 3D models.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments with limited guidance and apply sound technical judgment to complex design challenges.
- Experience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems and solar PV projects is preferred.
- Advanced experience with AutoCAD or related Autodesk design tools is preferred.
- Knowledge of AC and DC systems, cable schedules, conduit and trenching, cable tray systems, grounding, and equipment interconnections.
- Familiarity with standards and regulations such as the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), IEEE standards, or comparable electrical and safety requirements.
- Experience mentoring designers and supporting client-facing design reviews or technical coordination meetings is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify design conflicts and develop practical solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to engineering, construction, project management, and client stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines while taking ownership of assigned deliverables, deadlines, and technical decisions.
- Annual salary range of $110,700–$137,300, with additional bonus opportunities.
- Participation in an employee ownership ESOP program.
- Comprehensive benefits package with 99% employer-paid health, vision, life, and dental insurance.
- Medical, dependent care, and commuter flexible spending accounts.
- Monthly health and wellness stipend.
- Vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.
- Paid parental leave.
- 401(k) savings plan with 100% employer match up to 6%, with immediate vesting.
- Paid volunteer time off.
- Charitable donation matching.
- Fully remote work arrangement within the United States.
- Opportunities to contribute to utility-scale renewable energy and large-scale solar and battery storage projects.
- Opportunities for technical growth, mentorship, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
