The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend QA Engineer based in Switzerland.

As a Backend QA Engineer, you will take ownership of software quality across a high-traffic backend platform, ensuring reliable performance and seamless transaction processing. You will combine hands-on manual testing with automated test development to identify defects early and prevent issues from reaching production. Working closely with engineering teams, you will validate complex transaction lifecycles, API integrations, and event-driven workflows across distributed services. You will develop and maintain automated test suites using TypeScript and Playwright while strengthening regression coverage and testing efficiency. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing B2B technology platform within a dynamic, international, fully remote environment. Your analytical mindset and attention to detail will help establish robust quality practices as the platform scales.

Accountabilities:

  • Analyze business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories to design comprehensive test cases, scenarios, and validation strategies.
  • Perform end-to-end testing of transaction lifecycles, including initiation, authorization, settlement, and reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and consistency across the platform.
  • Proactively explore the system to identify edge cases, unexpected behaviors, potential risks, and defects that may not be covered by documented requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve automated regression test suites using TypeScript and Playwright, prioritizing critical business workflows and high-risk functionality.
  • Automate API testing and validate REST and gRPC endpoints using tools such as Postman, grpcurl, or equivalent solutions.
  • Test event-driven architectures and message-based workflows involving technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or NATS, including retry mechanisms, duplicate message handling, and failure scenarios.
  • Execute regression testing following deployments, combining automated and manual testing wherever automation coverage remains incomplete.
  • Document, report, and track defects in Jira, providing clear reproduction steps, relevant request payloads, service logs, and supporting evidence.
  • Validate data consistency across backend services using SQL queries and database checks when necessary.
  • Collaborate with backend developers and other stakeholders to investigate defects, verify fixes, improve test coverage, and strengthen overall software quality.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, testing standards, and automation practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • At least four years of professional experience in manual and automated software testing.
  • Hands-on experience in the iGaming industry, with exposure to areas such as online slots, bonuses, sportsbook products, or payment systems.
  • Practical experience developing automated tests using TypeScript and Playwright.
  • Experience with API testing and automation, including tools such as Postman, as well as test management platforms such as TestRail or Zephyr.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and the ability to run and configure services locally for testing purposes.
  • Solid understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies, software testing principles, and the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).
  • Good conversational English skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with distributed engineering teams.
  • Willingness to perform manual testing when needed, maintaining a balanced approach between exploratory testing and automation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, combined with meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying risks.
  • Familiarity with Go or the ability to read and understand Go code is an advantage.
  • Basic SQL knowledge and the ability to query relational databases to validate data integrity are desirable.
  • Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with business stakeholders is a plus.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing integration is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, observability tools, and monitoring practices is an advantage.
  • Understanding of microservices architectures and distributed backend systems is desirable.
  • A collaborative mindset, a sense of ownership, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment are important for success.
  • Fully remote work: Work remotely from eligible locations across Europe, with flexibility to organize your working environment.
  • Generous time off: Take up to 28 unavailable days per year, in addition to public holidays.
  • Startup environment: Join a growing B2B technology platform within a new technology ecosystem launched in 2025.
  • International collaboration: Work with colleagues from different countries in a globally distributed team.
  • Technical ownership: Help shape quality assurance practices, strengthen automation coverage, and contribute to the platform's development as it scales.
  • Professional growth: Gain hands-on experience with backend testing, transaction processing, API automation, and event-driven architectures.
  • Varied technical challenges: Work across manual testing, automated regression suites, distributed services, and complex transaction workflows.
  • Collaborative engineering culture: Partner closely with backend developers and other stakeholders to improve reliability, prevent production issues, and deliver high-quality software.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
