The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Information System Security Manager (ISSM) based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced cybersecurity professional to oversee information system security for a U.S. Air Force program in a remote work environment. In this role, you will lead system security planning, risk management, compliance monitoring, and accreditation activities for unclassified Department of Defense (DoD) information systems. You will play a critical role in maintaining system security and ensuring compliance with federal regulations, Air Force policies, and established cybersecurity standards. Working closely with cybersecurity leaders and multi-contractor teams, you will guide security decisions, coordinate audits, and support continuous monitoring initiatives. Your expertise in the Risk Management Framework (RMF), security controls, and authorization processes will help protect critical systems and maintain operational readiness. This opportunity is ideal for a security leader who combines technical depth, sound risk judgment, and a strong understanding of government cybersecurity requirements.

Accountabilities

  • System Security Planning and Authorization: Develop, maintain, and oversee System Security Plans (SSPs), including documentation, periodic reviews, accreditation, and re-accreditation activities. Support the process of obtaining and maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) approvals.
  • Cybersecurity Compliance: Ensure unclassified information systems comply with applicable DoD and U.S. Air Force regulations, federal security requirements, and program-specific operational needs while maintaining their accredited status.
  • Risk Management Framework (RMF): Lead and support RMF activities, applying relevant NIST SP 800-53 Revision 4 and Revision 5 security controls and Air Force cybersecurity policies to identify, assess, document, and mitigate information security risks.
  • Security Assessments and Audits: Serve as a primary point of contact for information system security inspections, audits, tests, and reviews conducted by oversight authorities, collaborating with cybersecurity leadership to address findings.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Maintain continuous monitoring processes, evaluate system security posture, review audit logs, and use cybersecurity monitoring tools to identify potential vulnerabilities, suspicious activity, and compliance gaps.
  • Vulnerability and Configuration Management: Review and update Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) results, ensure applicable software, hardware, and firmware comply with Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) requirements, and coordinate remediation activities.
  • Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) Management: Track, assess, and resolve security findings and remediation actions within the RMF process, ensuring vulnerabilities and compliance gaps are addressed appropriately.
  • Federal Reporting and Documentation: Ensure compliance with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) requirements and maintain accurate cybersecurity information in the Air Force Information Technology Investment Portfolio Suite (ITIPS).
  • Technical Security Guidance: Provide tactical information security advice and oversee cybersecurity activities for existing and future IT platforms, evaluating technology risks and their potential impact on program objectives.
  • DevSecOps and Cloud Security: Support security validation testing within DevSecOps processes and across on-premises and cloud environments, helping integrate security practices throughout the system development and deployment lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with cybersecurity leads, contractors, and other technical stakeholders to support security operations, continuous monitoring, evolving compliance requirements, and successful program delivery.
  • Architecture and Data Governance: Contribute to data strategy development, data quality and accessibility, and the documentation of architectural standards, reference architectures, operating models, and associated data management resources.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other cybersecurity and information system security duties as required to support program objectives.
  • Security Clearance: Must hold an active Secret security clearance.
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, with at least eight years of relevant cybersecurity experience.
  • Professional Certification: Must hold at least one current certification from the following: CompTIA CASP+, CISSP, CISSP Associate, or GSLC.
  • Air Force Cybersecurity Experience: At least three years of experience working with U.S. Air Force RMF security frameworks, including applicable DoD and Air Force security policies, instructions, and compliance requirements.
  • RMF and Security Controls: Demonstrated working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework and NIST SP 800-53 Revision 4 and Revision 5 controls.
  • System Authorization: Practical experience using the Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) and supporting or obtaining Authority to Operate (ATO) approvals.
  • Security Documentation: Experience developing and maintaining System Security Plans, reviewing security assessment results, tracking POA&Ms, and supporting accreditation and re-accreditation processes.
  • Vulnerability Management: Experience reviewing and updating STIG results and ensuring compliance with applicable IAVM requirements.
  • Security Monitoring Tools: Hands-on experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), Splunk, audit log reviews, and other cybersecurity monitoring functions.
  • DevSecOps and Cloud Security: Familiarity with security validation testing within DevSecOps workflows and experience supporting both on-premises and cloud-based environments.
  • Federal Compliance: Understanding of FISMA requirements and experience tracking relevant information through the Air Force ITIPS.
  • Technical and Analytical Skills: Ability to assess cybersecurity risks, evaluate the implications of technology implementations, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend practical mitigation strategies that support business and mission objectives.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to provide clear, actionable security guidance and work effectively with cybersecurity leaders, technical teams, and multiple contractors.
  • Communication and Organization: Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate compliance records.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance for eligible full-time employees.
  • Life and disability insurance: Coverage options designed to support employees and their families.
  • Retirement savings: Retirement plan with an employer matching contribution.
  • Paid time off: Paid leave to support personal needs, rest, and work-life balance.
  • Supplemental benefits: Access to voluntary insurance and additional benefit options.
  • Employee assistance program: Resources and support for personal and professional well-being.
  • Educational assistance: Tuition reimbursement opportunities to support continued learning and career development.
  • Remote work arrangement: Remote position based in the United States, supporting flexibility while contributing to a mission-focused government program.
  • Professional impact: Opportunity to contribute to Air Force cybersecurity operations, strengthen information system security, and support compliance across critical government IT environments.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
