The posting
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Automation Engineer based in India.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to drive API quality and automation for a cloud-native microservices platform built with Java and Spring Boot. In this role, you will lead automation strategy, develop scalable testing frameworks, and embed continuous testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve software reliability and delivery efficiency. You will collaborate closely with developers, architects, product teams, and integration partners to identify risks early and ensure APIs meet functional, performance, and security standards. The position also offers an opportunity to apply AI-powered tools and agents to streamline test design, execution, and analysis. You will help strengthen QA practices, promote quality ownership, and support services running on Google Cloud Platform. This remote opportunity is ideal for a technically strong, analytical professional who enjoys solving complex challenges and improving engineering practices in an Agile environment.
Accountabilities
- Define and execute an API automation strategy aligned with quality objectives, introducing effective testing approaches, tools, and technologies as appropriate.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reusable API automation frameworks using Java, RestAssured or Karate, and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) practices with Cucumber/Gherkin.
- Create maintainable, well-documented automated tests covering API functionality, data integrity, performance, and security, including data-driven testing for broad coverage.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI to support continuous testing and reliable releases.
- Use API testing and exploration tools such as Postman, Swagger, Hoppscotch, or ReadyAPI, applying relevant security testing principles, including OWASP practices.
- Leverage AI models and AI agents to generate test cases, identify scenarios, accelerate test execution, and improve test analysis; evaluate emerging tools and recommend practical adoption strategies.
- Manage test cases, test catalogs, test sets, execution plans, and results in Xray, maintaining traceability across requirements, tests, executions, and defects in Jira.
- Maintain clear documentation of test plans, procedures, scripts, results, and configurations using Git, Jira, and Confluence or SharePoint.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, architects, and integration partners to clarify requirements, improve testability, participate in design reviews, and identify quality risks early.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, while communicating test outcomes and quality metrics clearly to stakeholders.
- Establish and promote QA standards, review code for functional accuracy and quality, follow secure coding practices, and help maintain code coverage of at least 70%.
- Write and maintain unit tests using JUnit or TestNG where applicable, and complete coding tasks according to technical specifications and delivery timelines.
- Validate Spring Boot and Spring Cloud microservices, RESTful APIs, and services deployed on Google Cloud Platform, including environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Verify data quality across relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL and NoSQL systems such as MongoDB and Cassandra, including large datasets.
- Troubleshoot operational issues independently where possible, using monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK when available.
- Contribute to contract testing, performance testing, and domain-specific test coverage where relevant.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8–12 years of experience in software development and quality assurance, with a strong focus on API automation.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java and RestAssured, along with proficiency in BDD frameworks such as Cucumber/Gherkin.
- Practical experience with API testing tools such as Postman, Swagger, Hoppscotch, or ReadyAPI, and an understanding of API security testing principles and tools such as OWASP.
- Strong knowledge of building reusable automation frameworks, designing data-driven tests, and maintaining comprehensive test coverage.
- Familiarity with AI models and their capabilities, including practical use in test-case generation and scenario identification, as well as experience configuring AI agents for testing automation.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud, including microservices architecture, dependency injection, and RESTful API development and testing.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native technologies and experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud Platform services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Functions.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI, and unit testing frameworks such as JUnit or TestNG.
- Strong working knowledge of Jira and Xray, including test-case management, test catalogs, test sets, execution tracking, and integration between the tools.
- Experience using Git and platforms such as GitHub, Bitbucket, or GitLab for version control, collaboration, and code reviews.
- Familiarity with relational databases, including MySQL and PostgreSQL, and NoSQL datastores such as MongoDB and Cassandra, as well as data quality testing and large datasets.
- Ability to follow secure coding practices, review code effectively, and maintain code coverage of at least 70%.
- Experience documenting test plans, procedures, scripts, and results, using tools such as Jira, Confluence, or SharePoint.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while collaborating effectively across technical and business teams.
- Willingness to learn product architecture, contribute to technical discussions, and participate actively in Agile delivery.
- Nice to have: Experience with contract testing tools such as Pact, performance testing tools such as JMeter or Gatling, monitoring and logging platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK, and knowledge of the eCommerce domain.
- Remote work arrangement in India.
- Full-time employment.
- Opportunity to work on cloud-native microservices and enterprise-scale API automation.
- Exposure to AI-assisted testing, modern CI/CD practices, and Google Cloud Platform technologies.
- Collaboration with cross-functional engineering, architecture, product, and integration teams.
- Salary, healthcare coverage, paid leave, retirement benefits, and other specific perks were not stated in the provided job description.
