The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Field Auto Damage Appraiser based in Canada.

As a Senior Field Auto Damage Appraiser, you will assess vehicle damage and repair costs while supporting the adjustment and settlement of automobile physical damage claims. You will work directly with customers, repair facilities, and claim representatives to develop accurate and competitive repair estimates. The role combines technical automotive expertise, negotiation, customer service, and cost management. You will help ensure repairs meet quality standards while identifying opportunities to control indemnity, storage, and rental vehicle expenses. You will also assess vehicles declared total losses and contribute to efficient claim investigation and resolution in the field. The position requires strong judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills within a collaborative claims environment. This is a field-based opportunity serving the greater Calgary area, with flexibility to work remotely from an Alberta home office.

Accountabilities

  • Prepare complete, accurate, and competitive automobile repair estimates using automated estimating systems.
  • Communicate repair estimates and assessment information clearly to customers, repair facilities, and claim representatives.
  • Negotiate repair plans and processes with repair facilities to support appropriate repair outcomes and cost control.
  • Conduct re-inspections of repaired vehicles to assess repair quality and verify that costs are appropriately managed.
  • Evaluate the actual value of vehicles declared total losses and take proactive measures to control associated storage and rental vehicle expenses.
  • Respond to field dispatch requirements and complete claim investigations and resolutions efficiently and within established service expectations.
  • Identify and report potentially fraudulent claims to the appropriate senior leadership.
  • Balance cost-control objectives with a high standard of customer service throughout the claims process.
  • Maintain effective relationships with customers, repair facilities, colleagues, and other stakeholders involved in claim resolution.
  • Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays depending on operational requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in vehicle damage appraisal and the collision repair industry.
  • Previous professional experience as an auto damage appraiser is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mitchell Estimating System.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of motor vehicle repairs, particularly passenger vehicles.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain technical assessments clearly to different audiences.
  • Strong computer and technology skills, including the ability to work efficiently with estimating and claims-related systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with sound judgment when assessing vehicle damage, repair costs, and total-loss situations.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, repair facilities, claims professionals, and internal teams.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing field-based claim assignments efficiently.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where customer service, technical accuracy, and cost management must be balanced.
  • Competitive base compensation determined by job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
  • Eligibility for an annual bonus.
  • Retirement savings plan and employee share plan.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits.
  • Corporate wellness programs supporting physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Hybrid and flexible work model.
  • Strong career development and advancement opportunities.
  • Support for professional development and continuing education.
  • Competitive vacation package, with the option to purchase up to 5 additional days off per year.
  • Employee-led programs supporting diversity, inclusion, and belonging across areas including gender, LGBTQ+, and cultural diversity.
  • Opportunities to participate in volunteer and community-focused initiatives.
  • Accessibility accommodations available throughout the recruitment process and during employment for candidates who require them.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
