This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President of Specialty Pharmacy & Wholesaler Channel Management based in the United States.
This executive role leads strategy and execution across specialty pharmacy and wholesaler channels within a complex U.S. healthcare environment. You will shape channel strategy, contracting, distribution, and operational performance for specialty and traditional products. The position has significant influence on product access, distribution integrity, compliance, and commercial outcomes. You will lead a team of channel management professionals while building trusted relationships with major industry partners. The role requires strong insight into specialty distribution economics, reimbursement dynamics, policy changes, and evolving channel models. You will collaborate extensively with commercial, market access, finance, legal, medical, policy, digital, and distribution teams. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for an experienced healthcare executive who can navigate complexity and drive sustainable business impact.
Accountabilities
- Lead a team responsible for specialty pharmacy and wholesaler account strategy, contracting, relationship management, and performance.
- Develop, negotiate, and execute distribution agreements and specialty pharmacy network contracts that support compliant, efficient, and reliable product flow.
- Translate broader market access strategies into practical channel plans and execution priorities.
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with wholesalers, specialty distributors, specialty pharmacies, and other strategic channel partners.
- Monitor market developments such as PBM-owned specialty pharmacy consolidation, alternative funding models, site-of-care migration, and changes in distribution dynamics, adapting channel strategy accordingly.
- Ensure strong governance, compliance, risk management, and sound decision-making across channel contracting and operations.
- Lead performance management, coaching, succession planning, and talent development while fostering an inclusive and engaged team culture.
- Represent the organization in relevant industry forums, trade associations, and external initiatives involving specialty pharmacy and distribution.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including market access, commercial, trade and distribution, legal, medical affairs, policy, digital, and finance to align channel decisions with business objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in healthcare, business, economics, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Typically 15+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 13+ years with an MBA/MS/MPH/master’s degree, or 10+ years with a PhD or JD.
- Demonstrated experience in wholesaler and/or specialty pharmacy channel management, contracting, trade relations, or a closely related healthcare or pharmaceutical function.
- Proven ability to translate U.S. healthcare policy, reimbursement developments, distribution trends, and market dynamics into actionable channel strategies.
- Strong understanding of specialty pharmacy and wholesaler business models, distribution economics, contracting structures, and evolving site-of-care dynamics.
- Strong financial and business acumen, analytical capabilities, and complex negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated executive leadership experience, including coaching and developing talent, managing performance, and building inclusive high-performing teams.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders, collaborate across functions, and establish productive external partnerships.
- Strong judgment and adaptability, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, regulatory developments, and significant changes in channel and policy environments.
- Experience directly negotiating wholesaler distribution or specialty pharmacy network agreements is highly desirable.
- Annual base salary ranging from $274,000 to $456,600, depending on location and other applicable factors.
- Eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus with a 30% target of base salary.
- Eligibility to participate in a share-based long-term incentive program.
