The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President, Payer Account Management based in the United States.

This executive role leads strategic engagement and account management across major U.S. payer customers. You will shape enterprise-wide payer strategies that connect portfolio priorities, market access objectives, customer needs, and sustainable business outcomes. The role combines senior customer leadership, complex negotiations, contracting oversight, and strategic market insight. You will serve as a key voice of the payer internally, translating customer, reimbursement, competitive, and policy intelligence into actionable recommendations. Working across market access, commercial, finance, medical, legal, policy, and patient services teams, you will turn strategy into coordinated account execution. You will also lead and develop a high-performing organization capable of navigating an increasingly complex and consolidated payer landscape. This is a highly visible opportunity for an experienced healthcare leader to influence access, portfolio performance, and long-term customer relationships at scale.

Accountabilities

  • Set the strategic direction for payer account management, aligning customer engagement with portfolio priorities, brand access objectives, and broader U.S. business goals.
  • Lead integrated account strategies across national, regional, and government payer segments, establishing clear objectives, priorities, negotiation strategies, and measures of success.
  • Build trusted senior-level relationships with payer executives and decision-makers, personally engaging in the most strategically important customer situations and negotiations.
  • Translate access strategies into customer-specific contracting and execution plans while ensuring decisions remain within established financial, governance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Lead or oversee complex payer negotiations, evaluating competitive dynamics, access value, financial implications, gross-to-net considerations, and portfolio-level tradeoffs.
  • Partner with market access and commercial leaders to develop differentiated strategies across products, therapeutic areas, launches, and lifecycle stages.
  • Establish the payer account organization as a source of actionable customer intelligence, identifying changes in formulary strategy, benefit design, utilization management, payer consolidation, and emerging access models.
  • Monitor account performance, access outcomes, contracting effectiveness, opportunities, and risks, providing senior leadership with clear recommendations and intervention priorities.
  • Ensure payer teams are prepared for upcoming product launches and evolving lifecycle needs by incorporating customer insights, access barriers, and engagement priorities into planning.
  • Build effective cross-functional ways of working across market access, finance, legal, medical, policy, patient services, commercial, and other enterprise functions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop senior account management professionals, strengthening capabilities in strategic account management, negotiation, payer economics, financial acumen, and executive engagement.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, curiosity, continuous improvement, and responsible decision-making.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in business, healthcare, economics, public health, or a related field is preferred.
  • Typically 15+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 13+ years with an MBA/MS/MPH/master’s degree, or 10+ years with a PhD or JD.
  • Extensive leadership experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, managed care, or a closely related industry, with significant U.S. market access experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading payer account management, national accounts, managed markets, or senior customer-facing market access organizations.
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare environment, including commercial, Medicare, and government payer dynamics.
  • Proven experience developing and executing sophisticated payer strategies that deliver measurable access and business outcomes.
  • Significant experience leading complex contracting and negotiations with large healthcare customers.
  • Strong understanding of payer economics, formulary management, reimbursement, utilization management, and gross-to-net dynamics.
  • Ability to manage portfolio-level priorities and make strategic tradeoffs across products, customers, therapeutic areas, and business opportunities.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and financial acumen, with the ability to translate complex market and customer information into clear business recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior internal stakeholders and establish credibility with senior external executives.
  • Excellent executive communication, negotiation, relationship management, and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Proven experience leading and developing experienced teams and building strong organizational capabilities.
  • Track record of leading effectively through significant market, policy, organizational, or business changes while maintaining performance and colleague engagement.
  • Experience within a payer, PBM, or managed-care organization, across multiple payer segments, or with product launches and new-market access strategies is preferred.
  • Annual base salary ranging from $274,000 to $456,600, depending on location and applicable compensation factors.
  • Eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus with a 30% target of base salary.
  • Eligibility to participate in a share-based long-term incentive program.
  • Comprehensive medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with matching contributions plus an additional retirement savings contribution.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and personal days.
  • Paid caregiver, parental, and medical leave.
  • Remote work and U.S. site-based options, depending on location.
  • Approximately 25–35% travel.
  • Opportunities for professional development, leadership growth, and career advancement.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on employee wellbeing, collaboration, and long-term development.
  • No relocation package is provided for this position.
  • Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
