The posting

At Julius Baer, we celebrate and value the individual qualities you bring, enabling you to be impactful, to be entrepreneurial, to be empowered, and to create value beyond wealth. Let’s shape the future of wealth management together.

Join our CIO Office Global Fixed Income team and take a pivotal role in driving our quality high yield credit strategy. We are looking for an experienced and accomplished portfolio manager and credit analyst with a proven track record in high yield credit selection, portfolio construction, and portfolio management.

Based in Zurich, you will join our Global Quality High Yield desk and step into a dual capacity as both a portfolio manager and a credit analyst. In this role, you shall become a co-manager of the Julius Baer Global Quality High Yield fund and take primary responsibility for high yield issuer selection across our entire discretionary mandate business.

YOUR CHALLENGE

About the team

The CIO Office Global Fixed Income team is responsible for managing the Bank’s global fixed income funds and fixed income discretionary mandates. As the fixed income asset class competency centre, the team supports the Group Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Committee, and the CIOO Global Equity and Fixed Income sub-division. Our 16 specialists, based in Switzerland, combine the best of institutional and private wealth management processes, talent, and execution. Fully aligned with client interests, the team manages fixed income mandates, building-block investment funds, and certificates within a single, performance-focused group that has delivered strong risk-adjusted returns.

The Global Quality High Yield desk holds performance responsibility for the high yield fixed income asset class, executed through mutual funds and managed mandates. The desk focuses on liquid, quality high yield bond markets globally and manages the flagship Julius Baer Global Quality High Yield UCITS fund, which is highly ranked amongst peers. The team collaborates closely with our investment grade and global emerging markets desks.

Key responsibilities

  • Portfolio and fund management: Co-manage the Julius Baer Global Quality High Yield UCITS fund and implement investment strategies across funds and mandates according to specific guidelines. Your primary focus will be on the US and European high yield markets, alongside a potential but moderate allocation to emerging markets
  • Performance optimisation: Drive the fund’s risk-adjusted performance against benchmark and peers. Take accountability for resulting performance and represent it both internally and to clients
  • Mandate credit selection: Take ownership of high yield issuer selection for the Bank’s significant book of discretionary managed mandates
  • Fundamental analysis: Perform bottom-up analysis, issuer and bond selection, and relative value analysis. This includes financial modelling, scenario analysis, and covenant analysis on complex credits and corporate actions
  • Top-down positioning: Formulate regional and sectoral positioning, as well as rates, duration, and credit overlay strategies
  • Risk management: Actively manage risk exposures, including credit risk, currency and rates hedging, and the use of credit default swaps (CDS/CDX)
  • Collaboration and governance: Hold a seat on the fixed income credit selection sub-committee and collaborate closely with model portfolio and fixed income mandate portfolio management teams. Provide strategic and tactical input on the high yield asset class to senior management
  • Communication: Contribute to internal and external communications, including fund manager reports, strategy updates, investment proposals, and prospective client meetings
  • Execution and relationships: Maintain a strong collaboration with the fixed income dealing desk for primary and secondary execution. Build and maintain relationships with financial counterparties, corporate debt issuers, and analysts through roadshows and due diligence meetings

YOUR PROFILE

  • A university Master’s degree; the CFA designation is advantageous
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a fixed income high yield fund manager and/or credit analyst
  • Meaningful, in-depth experience in credit, sector, and economic analysis within global high yield markets
  • A passion for investing and a buy-side mindset grounded in a thorough understanding of risks and solid judgement, with a relentless focus on investment performance
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, an established market network, and experience in client interaction
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, thriving on the opportunity to contribute to the further development of the Julius Baer CIO Office Global Fixed Income franchise
  • Outstanding analytical and quantitative skills, with a detail-oriented approach and the ability to think critically and form independent opinions
  • A flexible, independent, and structured working style, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment under pressure
  • Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are advantageous
  • The ability to quickly establish credibility and trust, combined with strong teamwork and a client-oriented personality
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg (including Asset and Investment Manager systems) is a must, together with advanced MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills. Additional IT skills such as Python or other programming languages are a plus

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
