Curious about how accounting works across different industries and ready to take more ownership over client deliverables?

We are looking for an Accounting Associate to join our Accounting & Bookkeeping team within the Tax practice in Bucharest. You will manage the day-to-day accounting activities for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate bookkeeping, month-end closing, financial reporting and compliance with Romanian accounting requirements while developing your expertise in a professional services environment.

The Blueprint of your Role:

  • GCA Family & Sub-family: 2.11 Tax – Tax Compliance
  • Career Level: Level 6 – Team Member 2

Why join us?

  • Clarity (GCA): You have a well-defined career path. You’ll know exactly where you stand and what steps you need to take to grow within the team.
  • Fair Evaluation (Korn Ferry): We don’t rely on subjective opinions. We use a global methodology that helps you understand your potential and develop accordingly.
  • Smart Working: We try to automate repetitive processes as much as possible using data analytics tools, so we can focus on the things that actually matter.

What will you actually do?

You will work as part of an Accounting & Bookkeeping team, managing the day-to-day accounting activities for a portfolio of clients and supporting the delivery of accurate accounting records, financial reporting and statutory compliance requirements.

Core responsibilities

Accounting operations & bookkeeping (ownership)

Manage day-to-day accounting activities for assigned clients, including recording accounting transactions, reviewing supporting documentation and ensuring completeness and accuracy of accounting records in accordance with Romanian accounting regulations and internal methodologies.

Month-end closing & reconciliations

Perform month-end closing activities, including supplier, customer, bank, cash, payroll and tax reconciliations. Prepare trial balances, accounting schedules and closing files while identifying and investigating discrepancies.

Financial statements preparation

Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and annual reporting packages by preparing reconciliations, supporting schedules and accounting analyses required under Romanian accounting regulations and IFRS where applicable.

Accounting treatment of transactions

Review and analyse accounting transactions, including accruals, provisions, fixed assets, intercompany transactions and accounting corrections. Identify non-standard accounting situations and propose preliminary accounting treatment while escalating more complex matters when necessary.

Accounting-related tax compliance

Prepare VAT, Corporate Income Tax, Withholding Tax and other recurring tax compliance working files as part of the accounting closing process. Support the preparation and submission of tax returns and reconciliations related to accounting activities.

Client portfolio management

Take responsibility for the accounting delivery of allocated clients, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are prepared in line with engagement requirements and internal quality standards.

Audit support

Act as a primary contact for routine audit requests related to your client portfolio, preparing reconciliations, confirmations and supporting documentation required during annual audits.

Tools, process improvement & automation

Work with ERP systems, automated posting solutions and OCR technologies to ensure data quality and improve efficiency in accounting and compliance processes. Contribute ideas for streamlining routine activities and improving the quality of deliverables.

Additional responsibilities

  • Support senior team members with accounting and compliance projects, implementation of new accounting processes and updates driven by regulatory changes.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to interns and junior colleagues on routine accounting activities and internal procedures.

Who are you?

You are an early-career accounting professional, already familiar with bookkeeping, month-end closing activities and core accounting processes, motivated to deepen your expertise and ready to take responsibility for your own client portfolio in a structured, deadline-driven environment.

Mindset & behaviors

  • Eager to learn: You are curious about accounting and want to understand the reasoning behind accounting treatments, reporting requirements and compliance obligations.
  • Detail-oriented: You understand that accuracy in accounting is critical and you carefully review your work before delivery.
  • Organized & reliable: You can manage multiple tasks, follow procedures and respect deadlines for your assigned clients.
  • Proactive & accountable: You take ownership of your deliverables, raise issues early and follow through until resolution.
  • Team player: You enjoy collaborating with colleagues, are open to feedback and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
  • Adaptable: You are comfortable working with different clients, systems and industries as your experience grows.

Experience & background

Professional experience

  • Typically 1-3 years of experience in accounting, accounting outsourcing, bookkeeping or tax compliance environments.

  • Enrolment in or interest in professional qualifications (e.g. CECCAR, ACCA) would be a plus.

Functional knowledge

  • Experience with accounting software (Winmentor preferred); exposure to SAP, Navision, Ciel or other ERP systems would be a plus.
  • Openness to work with automated posting tools, OCR solutions and new technologies.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
