Job description

Director, Corporate Development (Deal Origination)

THE POSITION Libra Software Group is seeking a highly driven Director, Corporate Development, to lead the next stage of growth within our M&A origination function. This is a “player-coach” leadership role designed for an elite business development professional who combines exceptional personal sourcing capabilities with the ability to build and develop high-performing team. The Business Development Director will be responsible for building and leading a team of professionals dedicated to sourcing, qualifying, nurturing, and growing a pipeline of acquisition opportunities for our internal M&A team. Additionally, the Director will be tasked with developing a comprehensive M&A business development strategy and a long-term roadmap for the team, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality acquisition opportunities. In this highly visible, client-facing role, you will build trusted relationships with CEOs, founders, Investment Banks, M&A Advisors, and Private Equity & Venture Capital funds across the software industry.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop deep expertise in software investing, capital allocation, and M&A strategy within the Constellation Software ecosystem, one of the most active acquirers of software businesses globally. Along the way, you will gain direct exposure to senior leaders, investment decision-making processes, and the full acquisition lifecycle, creating a strong foundation for long-term growth within Libra and the broader Constellation network.

THE COMPANY Libra Software Group is a subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc. (TSX: CSU), one of the world’s most successful acquirers of vertical market software businesses. Our model is distinct: we acquire and hold businesses for the long term, preserving their autonomy while providing access to capital and proven operational best practices through Constellation’s global network of 1,300+ companies.

Founded in 1995, Constellation has deployed over $1B annually across 100+ acquisitions per year, supported by a decades-long track record of disciplined capital allocation and sustainable value creation. You can learn more by visiting our websites: csisoftware.com | librasoftwaregroup.com

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and manage a high-quality pipeline of software acquisition opportunities across Libra's global mandate, at both the individual and team level.
  • Develop long-term relationships with founders, CEOs, owners, M&A advisors, private equity firms, and other intermediaries.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Corporate Development professionals, with a view to scaling the team over the next 12-18 months. Recruit, onboard, and develop “A Players” while fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Own team operating cadence, pipeline reviews, forecasting, and CRM discipline to drive consistent performance.
  • Qualify acquisition opportunities and lead transactions through LOI before transitioning opportunities to investment and operating teams. You are responsible for ensuring that ≥95% of deals advancing to the M&A and operations team comply with our Buy Box.
  • Using an extremely data driven approach to monitor, diagnose and measure team performance, and hold the team accountable for tangible results in pipeline growth and advancing actionable transactions.
  • Champion the adoption of AI, automation, and best-in-class technology to improve sourcing productivity and pipeline quality.
  • Develop market intelligence, vertical market maps, and acquisition strategies to expand Libra's proprietary deal flow.
  • Represent Libra at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to strengthen our acquisition ecosystem.
  • Operational cadence: You will be expected to install and lead the following rituals:Daily: Activity scorecards and CRM hygiene checks. Weekly: Pipeline reviews, inspection of qualification rigor, and coaching sessions. Monthly: Monthly M&A target reviews (e.g., meaningful contacts, NDAs signed, etc.), market coverage analysis and Buy Box compliance audits.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in Business Development, Corporate Development, Enterprise Sales, M&A Origination, Investment Banking, or a related client-facing role.
  • Demonstrated success sourcing proprietary opportunities through outbound relationship development. A clear interest in developing a long-term pipeline of meaningful relationships with prospects as a career trajectory within software investing.
  • Previous leadership experience managing, developing and retaining “A players”.
  • Proven ability to balance individual production with coaching, accountability, and team development.
  • Strong understanding of software businesses and the M&A lifecycle; software, SaaS, or private equity experience is preferred.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and executive communication skills with founders, CEOs, and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience managing pipeline metrics, forecasting, and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred). Fluency in "Funnel Math"—knowing exactly how many touches it takes to reach a signed LOI.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools to improve business development effectiveness.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to thrive in an autonomous, performance-driven environment.
  • High integrity, strong work ethic, and a passion for building long-term relationships that lead to successful acquisitions.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with confidence and polish to speak with senior executives and business intermediaries.
  • Acts with professionalism, and as a culture carrier for Libra.
  • The role is based in Toronto and operates on a hybrid schedule.
  • Candidates must indicate if they are not legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Salary range is between $135,000-$150,000 plus bonus and commission structure.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
