Overview
Microsoft Commercial Marketplace is looking for a Principal Product Manager, Portfolio Strategy and Operations to help shape strategy and strengthen execution across a complex, cross-organizational product ecosystem. You will connect customer and partner needs, business opportunities, product roadmaps, engineering capacity, and go-to-market priorities into a clear and actionable portfolio.
In the Principal Product Manager role, you will lead the mechanisms used to evaluate new opportunities, make investment and sequencing decisions, and maintain a trusted view of commitments, dependencies, risks, and results. You will help leaders understand the choices in front of them and help teams translate those decisions into accountable follow-through.
You will collaborate with colleagues across product management, engineering, design, marketing, finance, strategy and operations, and other product organizations. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy connecting strategy with execution, bringing structure to ambiguous problems, and helping diverse teams make clear, evidence-based decisions together.
The team is evolving toward AI-native ways of working. You will help teams experiment thoughtfully, share what works, and translate promising practices into accessible, responsible, and repeatable approaches.

- Own the portfolio intake and evaluation process for new customer, partner, business, engineering, and product-group opportunities. Ensure requests have clear outcomes, evidence, accountable owners, and the artifacts required for effective decisions.
- Maintain a transparent, ranked book of work that reflects strategic direction and available capacity. Recommend where to accelerate, sequence, reshape, defer, or stop investments as priorities and evidence change.
- Maintain the integrity of portfolio data by establishing common taxonomy, lifecycle definitions, ranking conventions, documentation standards, and data-quality expectations across planning and engineering systems.
- Design and operate planning, roadmap, intake, and execution-review rhythms that give teams and leaders a trusted view of outcomes, delivery health, dependencies, risks, metrics, and learnings.
- Orchestrate dependencies across Marketplace, Commerce, engineering, finance, legal, compliance, marketing, and other product organizations. Establish shared outcomes, clarify ownership and decision paths, and escalate material risks when needed.
- Ensure portfolio decisions are documented, communicated, and translated into clear ownership and follow-through. Build durable operating standards, onboarding resources, and self-service guidance that allow practices to scale.
- Use analytics, workflow tools, automation, and AI responsibly to reduce administrative effort, improve decision quality, and increase the timeliness and accessibility of portfolio insights.
- Create clear, evidence-based portfolio narratives and recommendations for senior and executive audiences, connecting delivery progress and trade-offs to customer, partner, and business outcomes.
- Help advance AI-native product-development practices through experimentation, shared learning, effective change management, and responsible adoption.
