THE ROLE:

Following a recent merger, FGE and NexantECA, leading consulting companies specializing in energy markets, are expanding our Singapore, Sales Department.

We are looking for a commercially driven, intellectually curious Business Development Manager to join FGE NexantECA’s growing energy and commodities business. This is a hunter role you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities across a defined target market, while building the kind of trusted, long-term client relationships that turn first deals into long-term partnerships.

This is not a role for the faint-hearted. You will need to be comfortable navigating complex, multi-stakeholder sales environments, constructing rigorous business cases, and holding yourself to a consistently high standard. You will be selling market intelligence, data subscriptions and advisory services to senior decision-makers across the global energy and commodities sector including C-suite buyers at oil majors, national energy companies, traders and financial institutions so the ability to speak the language of business outcomes, not just product features, is essential.

Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Must be fluent in Japanese to communicate with Japanese clients
  • 3–7 years of proven B2B sales experience, with a consistent track record of meeting or exceeding target in a new business environment.
  • Demonstrable experience selling data, analytics, market intelligence or advisory services — ideally into the energy, commodities or financial sector.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles of 3–12 months in length.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (Hubspot preferred) and sales engagement tools.
  • Strong commercial numeracy comfortable building and presenting ROI models and business cases.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders up to and including C-suite level.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with a formal sales methodology MEDDPIC, SPIN, Challenger, or similar.
  • Direct sector experience in energy and commodities particularly gas, oil, LNG or the energy transition. Existing client relationships across the sector are a significant advantage.
  • Exposure to data licensing, data-as-a-service (DaaS), or analytics consultancy sales models.
  • Experience in a scale-up or high-growth commercial environment.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience.

Pipeline Generation & New Business

  • Proactively identify, research and qualify new business opportunities within a defined sector or geographic territory.
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of at least 3–4x your annual target through a combination of outbound prospecting, inbound lead conversion, referrals and event networking.
  • Develop compelling outreach strategies tailored to specific industries, use cases and buyer personas.
  • Consistently meet or exceed weekly activity metrics including outreach and pipeline creation.

Client Engagement & Solution Selling

  • Lead discovery conversations that uncover the client's strategic priorities, business pain points and the quantified cost of inaction.
  • Work consultatively to design and articulate FGE NexantECA’s market intelligence, data and advisory propositions in a way that maps directly to each client’s strategic objectives.
  • Build multi-threaded relationships within target accounts, engaging champions, economic buyers and key influencers in parallel.
  • Prepare and present high-quality business cases, proposals and ROI models that justify investment and facilitate internal approval.

Deal Qualification & Management

  • Apply a structured qualification framework (such as MEDDPIC) consistently across all active opportunities to assess deal health and identify risk.
  • Accurately forecast revenue within agreed tolerance on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact through to contract signature, coordinating internal resources including pre-sales, solutions and legal as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all activity, pipeline and client interactions within the CRM.

Market Intelligence & Commercial Acumen

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape and be able to position our solutions credibly against alternatives.
  • Feed client and market insight back into the product, marketing and leadership teams to inform roadmap and go-to-market strategy.
  • Stay current with industry developments across global gas, oil, LNG and the energy transition, translating these into commercially relevant narratives that resonate with clients and sharpen your competitive positioning.

Collaboration & Contribution

  • Work closely with consultant, research and customer success teams to ensure seamless handover and support a frictionless client experience.
  • Participate in regular pipeline reviews, deal workshops and forecast calls with full preparation and intellectual rigour.
  • Contribute actively to a high-performance sales culture sharing best practice, coaching and supporting peers, continually looking to innovate and holding the team to high standards.
