Production Estimator

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Modular Estimator to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with strong structural steel estimating fundamentals who enjoys working independently while collaborating closely with drafting, production, and project teams.

The role is approximately 60% estimating and 40% coordination/project support, including exposure to drafting and project coordination. While experience in modular construction is advantageous, we are happy to train candidates with solid structural steel estimating experience.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating (60%)

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, BOQs, and quantity take-offs from structural, fabrication, architectural, and engineering drawings.
  • Review project documentation and identify scope gaps, risks, and cost considerations.
  • Interpret shop drawings and fabrication details to develop commercially competitive estimates.
  • Prepare and manage tender submissions within required timelines.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Maintain accurate pricing records and estimating documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and pricing accuracy.

Coordination & Project Support (40%)

  • Coordinate with drafting, procurement, engineering, and production teams to ensure smooth project handovers.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders regarding project scope, timelines, and technical requirements.
  • Assist in reviewing drawings and project documentation to ensure constructability and commercial accuracy.
  • Proactively raise questions, clarify project requirements, and identify potential issues before pricing.
  • Support project delivery by coordinating changes, variations, and documentation throughout the estimating process.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience within structural steel, fabrication, construction, or related industries.
  • Strong experience preparing quantity take-offs and BOQs.
  • Ability to interpret structural, fabrication, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Able to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Drafting experience.
  • Experience supporting modular or prefabricated construction projects.
  • Exposure to CostX or similar estimating software.
  • Experience working on international or global construction projects (Australian experience is advantageous but not required).

What Makes You Successful

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Proactive and naturally curious.
  • Comfortable asking questions and challenging unclear project information.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong commercial awareness.
  • Collaborative and enjoys working across multiple teams.
  • Eager to learn new systems and processes.

Why Join Us?

  • Fully remote work setup
  • Company-issued laptop and phone
  • HMO from Day 1
  • Christmas Shutdown Leave (SIL)
  • Opportunity to work with an established Australian engineering company
  • Training and development in modular construction and company-specific estimating processes

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
