Work Setup: Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite weekly in Makati/BGC

Role Brief

The QA Engineer will take ownership of quality assurance for the client's in-house business platform, helping ensure the application remains reliable, secure, and accurate as the platform continues to evolve.

The role combines hands-on test automation, integration and performance testing, regression testing, and quality strategy development. Beyond executing test cases, the successful candidate will be expected to assess existing testing frameworks, identify coverage gaps, investigate defects, strengthen automated quality checks, and work closely with developers to prevent issues from reaching production.

A key focus will be building and maintaining practical, reliable automated testing solutions using tools such as Vitest and Playwright, strengthening CI/CD quality gates, and validating integrations across APIs, databases, and connected business systems. As the platform expands its mobile-first Progressive Web App (PWA) capabilities, the successful candidate will also help extend testing approaches across mobile browsers, devices, and workflows.

This role is suited to a QA professional who can work independently, think critically about risk, and take ownership of the quality process while collaborating closely with the development team. The successful candidate will play an important role in establishing scalable QA practices as the client's technology platform grows.

Key Role Deliverables

  • Establish, document, and maintain a practical, risk-based testing strategy across functional, regression, integration, exploratory, and non-functional testing.
  • Assess, extend, and maintain automated test suites and frameworks using Vitest, Playwright, or transferable Cypress experience.
  • Own integration testing across application APIs, PostgreSQL databases, and connected business systems such as Xero, Microsoft Graph, and SignWell.
  • Strengthen automated testing within CI/CD pipelines, including test execution, regression protection, flaky-test management, and release verification.
  • Design and implement proportionate performance and load testing for critical workflows, establishing baselines and investigating bottlenecks with developers.
  • Own regression testing, defect triage, and quality sign-off for application releases.
  • Investigate and fix targeted bugs in TypeScript and Node.js where appropriate, supported by automated tests and peer-reviewed pull requests.
  • Verify data accuracy and security controls, including financial calculations, role-based access control (RBAC), audit logs, and multi-tenant data isolation.
  • Support application error tracking, health monitoring, and release-quality alerting to make production issues visible and actionable.
  • Work closely with developers on testability, acceptance criteria, and appropriate test coverage for new features.
  • Extend QA strategies and automation to mobile-first PWA workflows, including real-device and mobile-browser testing, offline synchronisation, installability, and notifications.
  • Track quality metrics, investigate recurring defects, and continuously improve quality control processes.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to support test creation and bug investigation, while carefully reviewing the accuracy of generated outputs.
  • Maintain clear testing documentation and communicate findings, risks, and release readiness to relevant stakeholders.

Education Requirement

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Relevant software testing, QA, or test automation experience will be highly regarded.

Minimum Years of Experience in Similar Role

  • At least 3 years of relevant software testing or QA experience, including hands-on test automation.
  • Experience developing or maintaining automated testing frameworks for web applications.
  • Demonstrated capability across test strategy, automation, integration testing, and release quality.
  • Experience working independently and collaborating closely with developers in an Agile development environment will be advantageous.

Practical capability, technical depth, and the ability to take ownership of quality outcomes will be considered alongside total years of experience.

Technical System Experience

  • Test Automation: Vitest and Playwright; strong transferable experience with Cypress may also be considered.
  • Programming: Strong TypeScript/JavaScript skills, with experience working with Next.js and Node.js codebases.
  • API and Integration Testing: REST API and contract testing using tools such as Postman/Newman, Bruno, or Playwright API testing.
  • Databases: Strong SQL skills and experience validating data integrity in PostgreSQL, including row-level security and tenant-isolation testing.
  • CI/CD: Experience with GitHub Actions or similar pipelines, automated quality gates, regression protection, and release verification.
  • Performance Testing: Familiarity with tools such as k6 or JMeter.
  • Mobile/PWA Testing: Experience testing mobile-first web applications, responsive workflows, mobile browsers, and PWA functionality.
  • AI-Assisted Testing: Experience using AI tools such as Claude Code to support test creation, code investigation, and debugging.
  • Quality Monitoring: Familiarity with application observability, error tracking, health monitoring, and production-quality alerts.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Risk-oriented approach to testing, with the ability to prioritise based on impact and likelihood.
  • Proactive in identifying testing gaps, challenging assumptions, and preventing recurring issues.
  • Takes ownership of testing strategy, defect investigation, and release readiness.
  • Able to work independently and make sound decisions about testing priorities.
  • Practical and adaptable when selecting tools and approaches appropriate to the development environment.
  • Comfortable working closely with developers to improve testability and application quality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when documenting defects and explaining technical risks.
  • Organised and capable of managing competing priorities in a changing development environment.
  • Open to learning new technologies and improving QA practices as the platform evolves.

Must-Have Skills / Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant software QA or testing experience, including test automation.
  • Hands-on experience developing, maintaining, or improving automated tests for web applications.
  • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript capability and experience with Playwright, Vitest, or equivalent automation frameworks.
  • Experience with API testing, integration testing, and validating database interactions.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and database testing, ideally with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to develop a risk-based testing approach, identify coverage gaps, and prioritise critical workflows.
  • Experience with regression testing, defect triage, and release quality assurance.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to investigate issues beyond simply reporting defects.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with developers while taking independent ownership of QA deliverables.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings, risks, and quality issues clearly.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Experience testing mobile-first Progressive Web Applications (PWAs).
  • Familiarity with performance testing using k6 or JMeter.
  • Experience with application observability, error tracking, and production monitoring.
  • Knowledge of security testing, OWASP Top 10, or tools such as OWASP ZAP and Burp Suite.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing standards such as WCAG 2.2.
  • Experience with BrowserStack, Firebase Test Lab, or other real-device testing platforms.
  • Experience testing ERP, financial, or other business-critical applications.
  • Experience integrating LLMs into testing workflows.
  • ISTQB Advanced Level certification or equivalent.
  • Experience working as the sole QA professional in an Agile team.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
