The Role
Under the direction of the Region Chief Philanthropy Officer, the Director of Philanthropy directs the major gift (including planned gift) programs across all Alaskan ministries. Develops and manages activities across all Alaskan ministries that will directly result in prospect identification, engagement, and successful solicitations.
The Director guides major giving donor engagement strategies and maintains a portfolio of donors. The Director participates in the management of relevant board committees involving caregivers and volunteer leaders as appropriate. The Director cultivates caregiver and volunteer leadership support and utilizes their expertise to increase major giving to the Region.
What You'll Do
- Under the direction of the Region Chief Philanthropy Officer, provides strategic leadership of major and planned gifts programs for the Region.
- With support from the Region Chief Philanthropy Officer, develops single and multi-year fundraising targets.
- Prepares an annual major gift plan to achieve revenue targets in consultation with Foundation colleagues, with an emphasis on increasing major giving to the Foundation and ensures the quality and quantity of major gift activity in the Region.
- Using sophisticated fundraising methodologies, reports and measurements, ensures that prospects capable of major gifts are cultivated, solicited and stewarded in a meaningful, appropriate, and deliberate manner.
- Provides support and leadership to ensure the highest level of productivity for philanthropy officers, including recruitment, hiring, evaluating, training, and coaching, and providing a structure for collaborative, consistent, and supportive donor development as a team.
- Ensures that all major gift materials, proposals and applications are of the highest quality, effective, share a consistent message, and appropriate to the donor or funder.
- Responsible for documentation and up to date procedures for major gift processes.
- Builds and manages structures that ensure individualized, meaningful and appropriate stewardship for major donors.
- Monitors and maximizes major donor retention.
- Uses appropriate interpersonal skills to guide others to accomplish objectives, facilitates teamwork, participation and cooperation.
- Develops and manages a portfolio of major gift prospects with emphasis on prospects who require a multi-discipline approach.
- Assures timely performance evaluations that reflect validated competence and quality standards.
- Develops and promotes talents of the team and succession planning.
- Counsels staff appropriately and is competent in conflict management.
- Maintains discretion and confidentiality as professionalism and common sense dictate to accomplish the Providence Mission.
- Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served.

What You'll Bring
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Nonprofit, or other related major; or equivalent education/experience.
- Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Nonprofit, or other related major (preferred).
- Coursework/Training: CFRE (preferred).
Experience & Expertise
- 10 years of demonstrated experience in this specific work.
- 7 years of fundraising development work experience which includes successful major gift and/or grants experience, successfully securing and managing individual gifts and grants of $1 million plus.
- 5 years of employee management experience including success leading professionals, support staff, and volunteers to achieve short and long term professional goals, preferably in a healthcare setting.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.
PLEASE ADJUST ACCORDINGLY: At Providence we believe in the importance of human connection and the impact of in-person collaboration towards team cohesion and caregiver engagement. Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.

Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
