The posting

Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

  • Lead safety across Qantas Freight and JETS Transport in a dynamic and growing business
  • Drive operational and people safety performance, safety governance and continuous improvement
  • Full-time permanent position based at our head office in Mascot, Sydney

We’ve always been pioneers, and we’re proud to see that spirit in our people today. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and growing part of the business, working across Qantas Freight and JETS Transport in a fast-paced operational environment where safety, performance and continuous improvement go hand in hand.

As the Senior Manager – Freight Safety, you’ll lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of safety standards and assurance frameworks across Qantas Freight and JETS Transport. With a dedicated focus on these operations, you’ll provide leadership across operational and people safety, assurance, safety governance and strategic improvement initiatives.

Your leadership will be key to embedding a proactive safety culture, driving standardisation and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and Group Safety strategies. You’ll work closely with the freight leadership team and Group Safety functions to strengthen critical controls, identify emerging risks and use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement in safety performance across a complex and dynamic operating environment.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • 7+ years’ experience in safety, standards or assurance leadership roles, ideally within freight, logistics, warehousing, transport, aviation or other complex operational environments
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant safety field, e.g. Aviation, WHS, Environmental Safety or Safety Management
  • You will bring hands-on experience with automation, engineering controls, and the hierarchy of controls, and you can turn them into practical solutions on the floor.
  • You're confident using data, digital tools, and emerging technology to improve visibility, predict risk, inform decisions, and enable improved outcomes.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, program delivery and managing diverse business objectives
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to inspire people to own safety, create meaningful change, and influence positive outcomes at all levels
  • Deep knowledge of safety legislation, regulatory requirements and best-practice frameworks
  • Strong understanding of critical risks and critical controls
  • Skilled in risk management, change management and decision-making
  • Experience in contractor and supplier management and oversight
  • Strong people leadership experience
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
