CNC Machine Operator – 2nd Shift

Location: Richmond, VA Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Pay: Starting at $24.00/hr + $3.00/hr 2nd Shift Differential; higher rates available depending on experience.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machine Operator to join a structural steel fabrication team on 2nd shift. This role involves operating CNC equipment, processing structural steel components, and ensuring finished work meets quality and dimensional requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC equipment, including plasma cutters, beam drill lines, and angle lines
  • Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, blueprints, and work orders
  • Load, position, and secure steel beams, plates, and other materials using overhead cranes and rigging equipment
  • Monitor machine operation and make adjustments for accuracy and quality
  • Use tape measures, calipers, squares, and other precision measuring tools
  • Make basic programming edits and machine adjustments for different material sizes and thicknesses
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot basic CNC equipment issues
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment following OSHA and shop safety standards

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of CNC machine operation experience, preferably in structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings
  • Experience using precision measuring tools
  • Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
