Structural Steel Fabricator – Fitter/Welder

Location: York, PA Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift Pay: Up to $25/hour, depending on experience 2nd Shift Differential: +$3/hour

Position Summary

We are looking for experienced structural steel fabrication professionals for Fitter and Welder/Fitter assignments. Depending on experience and placement, the position may focus primarily on steel layout and fit-up or include Flux Core welding.

The role involves working from fabrication drawings, taking precise measurements, positioning steel components, and preparing assemblies for welding and final production.

Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details before beginning each job.
  • Lay out and mark structural steel components using specified measurements.
  • Position, align, and secure steel members for accurate fit-up.
  • Fit and assemble structural components in preparation for welding.
  • Perform Flux Core welding when assigned to Welder/Fitter duties.
  • Set up and operate a track torch.
  • Safely operate and maintain welding equipment, fabrication machinery, and hand tools.
  • Inspect dimensions, fit-up, alignment, and completed assemblies.
  • Make adjustments as necessary to meet drawing and fabrication requirements.
  • Work with supervisors and other fabricators to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Follow required safety procedures and workplace practices.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
  • Experience as a Structural Steel Fitter, Welder/Fitter, Structural Welder, or similar role.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with structural steel layout, fitting, positioning, and assembly.
  • Knowledge of welding processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to set up and operate a track torch.
  • Ability to perform Flux Core welding and successfully complete a pre-employment welding test.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate workmanship.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safe work practices.
  • AWS or other recognized welding certification preferred.
