Job Description

We are looking for an Engineer to join our team based at Lincoln Depot, working across our traffic signs, signals and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) portfolio.

The role will have a particular focus on traffic signs maintenance and project activities across the East Midlands. However, you'll also work across traffic signals and other ITS equipment, supporting planned and reactive maintenance activities as required.

You'll be working independently and alongside other Engineers, helping to ensure our roadside technology is maintained safely, efficiently and to the required customer standards.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on traffic signs, signals and associated ITS equipment.
  • Diagnosing faults, completing repairs and ensuring equipment is operating correctly.
  • Supporting the installation, testing and commissioning of roadside signs, signals and associated ITS systems.
  • Undertaking routine inspections, preventative maintenance and responding to equipment failures.
  • Supporting traffic signs maintenance and project work across the East Midlands, alongside wider signals and ITS activities.
  • Participating in the standby and on-call rota, responding to urgent faults and breakdowns outside normal working hours.
  • Working safely on highways and customer sites, following company Health & Safety procedures.
  • Completing worksheets, timesheets and other technical documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintaining company vehicles, tools, equipment and PPE in a safe and usable condition.
  • Working with colleagues, managers and customers to ensure contractual requirements and service standards are met.

Flexibility to travel across the operational area and support both signs and signals contracts is an important part of the role.

Qualifications

We're looking for a practical, hands-on Engineer with electrical/electronic knowledge and experience of maintaining, installing or fault-finding on roadside technology.

You'll need:

  • Relevant electrical/electronic technical knowledge, qualifications or practical engineering experience.
  • Experience of fault-finding, maintenance and resolving technical issues.
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety requirements, particularly when working on highways or roadside equipment.
  • The ability and willingness to work across both traffic signs and traffic signals, with training provided where additional competencies are required.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to complete technical documentation accurately.
  • A full UK manual driving licence.
  • Flexibility to travel across the operational area and participate in a standby and on-call rota, including out-of-hours working.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with traffic signs, particularly electronic or variable message signs (VMS), or other roadside ITS equipment.
  • Experience maintaining or installing traffic signals.
  • Relevant Sector 8 accreditation and qualifications such as NRSWA, G39 or ECS.
  • Experience of testing and commissioning roadside electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of traffic controllers, roadside communication systems or other ITS technologies.

We're particularly interested in candidates with traffic signs experience, but we're also looking for someone who is willing to develop their skills across the wider signals and ITS portfolio.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
