The posting

About us

At Tana, we believe that your skills and your character define you, not where in the world you were born. We empower brilliant young people in Africa to start meaningful careers by training them for tech and data roles, and embedding them into full-time, remote positions with companies across North America and Europe. We're a rapidly growing start-up headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with a vision to change the world of work.

Position Overview

We are hiring a Senior Business Systems Analyst to work on a commercial real estate software platform and connect end users, stakeholders and engineers. The platform helps companies manage property leases, documents, key dates, tasks and lease accounting compliance.

You will turn business needs into clear, buildable requirements, maintain the delivery backlog and help verify that completed work meets user needs. The role combines requirements gathering, documentation, Agile delivery support, hands-on testing and SQL-based data checks.

Responsibilities

  • Run requirements sessions with end users and stakeholders to understand what they need and why.
  • Write epics, features and user stories with clear acceptance criteria using the Given/When/Then format.
  • Understand how stories connect to each other and the wider product so work is sequenced sensibly.
  • Keep the Azure DevOps backlog and Kanban boards clean and up to date, including grooming, sizing and sprint planning.
  • Produce functional specifications, process flows and data mapping documentation where needed.
  • Work alongside developers during sprints to clarify requirements and answer questions.
  • Write and run test cases, perform functional and regression testing, and coordinate user acceptance testing with the business.
  • Triage defects and sign off on release readiness.
  • Use SQL to check the data behind requirements and reports.
  • Use AI-based tools, such as Copilot for Azure DevOps, to support story writing, documentation and analysis.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a business systems analyst or product analyst.
  • Solid Agile/Scrum experience, including ceremonies, sprints, backlog refinement and Kanban boards.
  • Experience managing requirements and work items in Azure DevOps or Jira.
  • Strong written specifications and acceptance criteria, including the ability to write user stories that developers can build from without needing a follow-up conversation.
  • Confidence running interviews, workshops, demos and walkthroughs with end users.
  • Hands-on testing experience, including writing test cases, functional and regression testing, and coordinating UAT.
  • Basic SQL literacy: ability to write and run queries and understand tables and their relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, including drawing out user and customer needs and explaining them clearly to engineers.
  • Attention to detail in identifying requirements gaps and defects before they reach users.
  • A proactive approach to finding missing information.
  • Ability to learn new tools, including AI tools, and develop knowledge of the lease management domain.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Azure DevOps queries, views and dashboards.
  • Experience using AI tools such as Copilot for Azure DevOps or ChatGPT for analysis, story writing and documentation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
