The posting

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

The Manager, AI Strategy & Enablement will help execute Marketing's AI strategy by turning approved priorities into tools and workflows that teams can use. You will identify opportunities where AI can improve work, recommend whether AI, process changes, or conventional software are the better approach, and build and configure solutions directly.

Quality, business impact, adoption, and time saved will determine how we measure success, not the number of tools used or launched.

You will sit on the Marketing team and report to the Managing Director, MarTech & AI. You will work across Marketing and regularly collaborate with Enterprise IT, Product, Data, Information Security, Legal, Privacy, and Procurement teams. This is a hybrid role based in our New York City headquarters. You can expect to come into the office three days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to automate or improve Marketing work and translate ambiguous business problems into practical use cases.
  • Recommend whether AI, process changes, or conventional software are the best approach to each problem.
  • Lead assigned AI projects from discovery through rollout and ongoing improvement, managing requirements, timelines, owners, dependencies, risks, and success measures.
  • Build, configure, test, and improve AI tools and workflows using approved enterprise, low-code, and development tools.
  • Apply established standards for instructions, reference materials, data, permissions, testing, monitoring, human oversight, and failure handling.
  • Partner with technical teams when solutions require production engineering, data access, integrations, or complex system architecture.
  • Create role-specific documentation and enablement, track adoption and impact, and use the results to improve tools, workflows, and training.
  • Evaluate AI tools and vendors for business fit, quality, integration requirements, risk, and cost. Work with governance partners to ensure solutions meet established legal, privacy, security, data, and AI oversight requirements.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in product or program management, digital transformation, marketing technology, automation, enablement, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience applying generative AI tools to business problems and workflows.
  • Working knowledge of AI agents and related concepts, with experience building or configuring agents, automations, retrieval systems, or AI-enabled workflows.
  • Experience leading cross-functional work from discovery and prototyping through implementation and adoption.
  • Experience translating ambiguous business problems into requirements, implementation plans, and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience evaluating AI quality, privacy, security, data governance, legal risk, and AI-human workflows, and explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating evaluation methods for AI outputs and using the results to improve instructions, context, tools, or workflow design.
  • Experience with AI-enabled productivity, knowledge, automation, and development tools such as Notion, Glean, Gemini Notebook, Make, Replit, or Cursor.
  • Experience in Marketing, Marketing Operations, or MarTech, with familiarity in vendor assessment, procurement, contracts, and enterprise technology governance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
