Trinity University Police Department

Full-Time | Trinity University Campus | Starting Pay: $28.85/hour

The Trinity University Police Department is seeking a TCOLE-certified Police Officer to serve and protect the Trinity University community.

As a Trinity University Police Officer, you will help provide a safe and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, integrity, and respect while enforcing applicable laws and University policies.

This role requires an officer who understands that effective campus policing is about more than enforcement. It requires building relationships, providing service, communicating effectively, responding appropriately during emergencies, and treating every member of the community with dignity and respect.

Starting Pay: $28.85 per hour

IMPORTANT: Applicants must currently hold a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer license or must be TCOLE certified before their first day of employment.

What You’ll Do

As a Police Officer with Trinity University, you will:

  • Patrol the Trinity University campus by vehicle, bicycle, and on foot.
  • Respond to calls for service and provide assistance to students, employees, and visitors.
  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations involving criminal and non-criminal incidents occurring on University property.
  • Preserve the peace and protect life and property using lawful, professional, and appropriate policing practices.
  • Enforce applicable federal, state, and local laws, including traffic laws and regulations.
  • Conduct traffic stops and issue warnings or citations when appropriate.
  • Make arrests and take individuals into custody when circumstances and applicable law require.
  • Help ensure University buildings, facilities, and property remain safe and secure.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely police reports and other required documentation.
  • Provide information, assistance, and directions to members of the University community and campus visitors.
  • Respond quickly and exercise sound judgment during emergency and high-pressure situations.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow officers, University departments, and external law enforcement and emergency response partners.
  • Follow Trinity University policies, departmental procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

Successful Trinity University Police Officers demonstrate:

  • Professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to remain composed and make rational decisions during emergencies and stressful situations.
  • A commitment to treating individuals with dignity and respect.
  • Strong observation, documentation, and report-writing skills.
  • The ability to interpret and appropriately apply laws, policies, procedures, and departmental directives.
  • A service-oriented approach to working within a diverse university community.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current TCOLE Peace Officer license/certification or must be TCOLE certified before their first day of employment.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to meet all applicable requirements for employment as a Texas peace officer.
  • Ability to successfully complete Trinity University’s required pre-employment screening and background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in law enforcement, security, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a campus, community-oriented, or service-focused policing environment.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position.

Police Officers must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency assignments as required. Because the Trinity University Police Department provides continuous campus coverage, schedules may vary based on departmental and University needs.

Physical and Working Requirements

Police Officers must be able to perform the essential physical responsibilities associated with law enforcement duties, including:

  • Walking and running
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods
  • Climbing stairs
  • Jumping
  • Lifting or moving objects weighing 50 pounds or more
  • Riding a bicycle
  • Operating a motor vehicle
  • Working outdoors and in inclement weather
  • Responding to emergency and potentially hazardous situations

Officers may be required to use or operate law enforcement and communications equipment associated with their duties, including authorized firearms, intermediate weapons, radios, vehicles, and other departmental equipment.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required pre-employment processes, which may include:

  • Comprehensive background investigation
  • Physical examination
  • Drug screening
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Driving-record review
  • Verification of TCOLE licensing and eligibility
  • Other screenings or requirements applicable to employment as a Texas peace officer

Applicants must meet applicable legal and licensing standards regarding criminal history and eligibility to serve as a peace officer.

Supervision

Work is performed under the direction of departmental supervisory personnel and is reviewed through observation, reports, performance standards, and other established departmental practices.

Attendance

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. Officers are expected to work their assigned schedules and any required scheduled or emergency overtime.

If you are a TCOLE-certified peace officer or in the process of completing your TCOLE certification who values professionalism, service, accountability, and community engagement, we encourage you to apply.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
