Responsibilities
The professor of practice who will also serve as language program director will oversee the pedagogical mission, curriculum, staffing, instructional evaluation, assessment, and day-to-day administration of the Spanish Language Program. They will also teach in the program and contribute to the broader educational mission of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the School of Liberal Arts. This appointment concurrently holds a faculty position at the rank of Professor of Practice or Senior Professor of Practice (initial rank dependent on experience and qualifications). While teaching-track faculty typically 6 courses per academic year, the Director is compensated by a substantial stipend and 3 course releases per year, reflecting the considerable administrative responsibilities associated with directing a large language program. Thus, the director will teach 3 courses per academic year on a 1-2 or 2-1 schedule.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Spanish, or a related field; superior-level proficiency in Spanish and English; a strong record of successful university-level Spanish language teaching; and demonstrated expertise in second-language pedagogy, curriculum development, and assessment.
