Electrician – Heat Pumps & Air Conditioning

Location: Fareham, Hampshire – covering Hampshire and surrounding areas

Employment: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 basic DOE + overtime / additional earning potential

Start: ASAP / Negotiable

Company & Role Overview

Valoris Group is recruiting on behalf of our client, an established family-run heating, cooling and renewable energy business based in Fareham. The company installs, services and repairs boilers, heating systems, air source heat pumps, air conditioning, Solar PV, battery storage and EV chargers for domestic and commercial customers.

This vacancy combines three areas the business already operates heavily in: electrical works, heat pumps and air conditioning. They need a technically capable electrician who can work confidently around modern heating and cooling systems rather than someone limited to conventional electrical installation work.

The engineer will support installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and remedial works across heating and cooling projects. The work is predominantly across Hampshire and the surrounding South Coast area, with a mixture of domestic and light-commercial sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete electrical installation works associated with heat pumps, air conditioning and heating systems
  • Install and connect isolators, supplies, controls, pumps, sensors, thermostats and associated electrical components
  • Carry out electrical testing, inspection, fault finding and remedial work
  • Support installation and commissioning of air source heat pump systems
  • Work on air conditioning systems including split, multi-split and other comfort cooling systems where qualified
  • Diagnose electrical and controls faults across heating and cooling equipment
  • Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Attend reactive breakdowns and identify the root cause of faults
  • Support system replacements, upgrades and retrofit works
  • Complete commissioning sheets, electrical certification, service reports and job documentation accurately
  • Work closely with heating, plumbing and AC engineers where projects require multiple trades
  • Provide clear updates to the office regarding completed works, remedials, parts and follow-up requirements
  • Identify additional remedial or improvement works while on site
  • Maintain excellent workmanship, presentation and customer service standards
  • Work in accordance with BS 7671, F-Gas requirements, manufacturer instructions, health & safety requirements and company procedures

Systems / Technical Exposure

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Air conditioning and comfort cooling
  • Split and multi-split systems
  • VRV / VRF systems where experienced
  • Heating controls and smart controls
  • Pumps, valves, sensors and associated electrical controls
  • Domestic and light-commercial electrical systems
  • Renewable energy installations

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Electrician with strong practical electrical experience
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Experience of fault finding and diagnostics
  • Hands-on experience with air source heat pumps
  • Hands-on experience with air conditioning systems
  • F-Gas qualification appropriate to the AC work undertaken
  • Good understanding of electrical controls
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently and manage a field-based workload
  • Professional and confident when dealing directly with customers

Highly Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds electrical qualification
  • 2391 Inspection & Testing or equivalent
  • NVQ / City & Guilds in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
  • Manufacturer training on Mitsubishi, Daikin, Vaillant, Worcester Bosch or similar systems
  • Experience working to MCS standards
  • Experience with renewable heating controls and low-temperature systems
  • IPAF / PASMA / CSCS or SKILLcard

What the business Is Looking For

The priority is someone who can genuinely bridge electrical engineering with heat pumps and AC. The successful candidate should be able to attend a job, understand how the complete system operates, diagnose electrical or control faults, complete safe remedial works and communicate clearly with both the customer and the wider engineering team.

Package & Benefits

  • £40,000 – £50,000 basic salary depending on experience
  • Company van and fuel card
  • Overtime and additional earning opportunities
  • Permanent, stable employment
  • Local and regional work primarily around Hampshire
  • Ongoing manufacturer and technical training
  • Opportunity to develop further across heat pumps, AC and wider renewable technologies
  • Support from an established engineering and office team
  • Long-term progression as the heating, cooling and renewables divisions grow

Candidate Screening Brief

  • Must be a competent electrician rather than an improver
  • Must have real heat pump exposure
  • Must have practical AC experience and appropriate F-Gas competence
  • Prioritise candidates with service / fault-finding ability, not installation-only backgrounds
  • Strong preference for engineers already covering Hampshire / South Coast
  • Must be comfortable in customer-facing domestic environments
  • Avoid candidates whose experience is purely industrial electrical with no heating / cooling exposure

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
