Heating Engineer – Service & Maintenance

Location: Fareham, Hampshire – covering Hampshire and surrounding areas

Employment: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: DOE + overtime + call-out

Company & Role Overview

Valoris Group is recruiting on behalf of our client, an established family-run heating, cooling and renewable energy business based in Fareham. the business installs, services and repairs boilers, heating systems, air source heat pumps, air conditioning and wider renewable technologies for domestic and commercial customers.

This requirement closely follows previous Service & Breakdown / Heating Engineer briefs Valoris has recruited for with the business. The focus is service, maintenance, diagnostics and breakdown work rather than high-volume installation.

The business needs an engineer who can confidently diagnose faults, repair systems properly, communicate with customers and manage a varied mobile workload across Hampshire. Heat pump experience is highly useful because the business increasingly works across both conventional and renewable heating systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned servicing of domestic boilers and heating systems
  • Complete routine heating maintenance and preventative works
  • Attend reactive breakdowns and diagnose heating and hot-water faults
  • Fault-find and repair boilers, controls, pumps, valves and associated heating components
  • Identify the root cause of system faults and recommend appropriate remedial action
  • Carry out gas-safety checks and relevant compliance work
  • Support servicing, diagnostics and maintenance of air source heat pumps where experienced
  • Work with low-temperature heating and renewable controls where required
  • Complete service sheets, gas documentation and job reports accurately
  • Keep the office team updated regarding completed jobs, outstanding remedials and required return visits
  • Identify parts and materials required for follow-up work
  • Explain faults and recommended actions clearly to customers
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship in occupied properties
  • Attend planned appointments and emergency / reactive call-outs as required
  • Participate in overtime and call-out arrangements where applicable

Technical Experience

  • Domestic gas boilers
  • Central heating systems
  • Heating controls
  • Hot-water systems
  • Pumps and valves
  • Fault diagnostics
  • Planned servicing
  • Breakdown repair
  • Air source heat pumps – desirable / advantageous
  • Renewable heating controls – desirable

Essential Requirements

  • Experienced domestic Heating / Gas Service & Breakdown Engineer
  • Gas Safe registered / appropriate domestic ACS qualifications
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
  • Good knowledge of boilers, controls and domestic heating systems
  • Previous customer-facing field-service experience
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently and manage a mobile workload
  • Professional approach and strong customer-service standards

Highly Desirable

  • Air source heat pump service and fault-finding experience
  • G3 Unvented qualification
  • Manufacturer training including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Mitsubishi, Daikin or similar
  • Experience with renewable heating systems
  • Knowledge of low-temperature heating design and controls
  • Previous experience working for a service / maintenance-focused heating business

What the business Is Looking For

The priority is a proper service and breakdown engineer – someone who can diagnose rather than simply replace components. They need an engineer who can walk into a customer's property, methodically identify the problem, explain what is wrong and either complete the repair or clearly specify what is required next.

Package & Benefits

  • £38,000 – £48,000 basic depending on experience
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Call-out earnings
  • Company van and fuel card
  • Consistent local and regional workload
  • Permanent long-term employment
  • Manufacturer and technical training
  • Opportunity to gain further experience across heat pumps and renewable heating
  • Support from an established office and engineering team

Candidate Screening Brief

  • Prioritise strong service / breakdown engineers over installation-only candidates
  • Gas Safe / domestic ACS must be current
  • Look for genuine diagnostic experience across boilers and controls
  • ASHP experience is a strong advantage and should be highlighted immediately
  • Customer-facing ability is important because much of the work is in occupied properties
  • Prefer engineers already covering Hampshire / South Coast
  • Manufacturer-trained engineers are particularly attractive
  • Look for stability and a track record of independently managing field workloads

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
