The posting

VAST Data is looking for a VAST On Cloud - Customer Success Engineer to join our growing team!

This is a great opportunity to be part of one of the fastest-growing infrastructure companies in history, an organization that is at the center of the hurricane being created by the revolution in artificial intelligence.

"VAST's data management vision is the future of the market." — Forbes

VAST Data is the data platform company for the AI era. We are building the enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets and make them available for real-time data analysis and AI training and inference. Designed from the ground up to make AI simple to deploy and manage, VAST takes the cost and complexity out of deploying enterprise and AI infrastructure across data center, edge, and cloud.

Our success has been built through intense innovation, a customer-first mentality, and a team of fearless VASTronauts who leverage their skills & experiences to make real market impact. This is an opportunity to be a key contributor at a pivotal time in our company's growth and at a pivotal point in computing history.

As a VAST On Cloud - Customer Success Engineer, you will be regarded as a VAST Data technical expert specialized in deploying, supporting, and optimizing our enterprise platform within cloud environments. You will be a vital part of the VAST "Flight Crew" for our customers, working closely with a dedicated team of Support Engineers and Success Managers to manage all post-sales activity and ensure maximum adoption.

Your focus will extend beyond traditional support into active customer success—helping clients design, automate, and navigate hybrid and multi-cloud architectures. You will use your deep cloud-native expertise, hands-on troubleshooting skills, and client-facing mastery to help customers successfully run the VAST AI OS across the world's leading public and private cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Deploy & Maintain: Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud services and infrastructure components in customer public and private cloud environments.

Build Trusted Relationships: Develop deep, technical, and trusted relationships with customers based on technical excellence, a customer-first mindset, and your command of the VAST On Cloud product portfolio.

Automation & IaC: Contribute to cloud automation and orchestration efforts using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and scripting (e.g., Python, Shell).

Cloud Operations & Observability: Understand and regularly interact with each cloud provider's native monitoring, logging, dashboards, and observability tools, alongside infrastructure monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).

Deep Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot complex CSP instances and networks. Systematically parse logs to identify and resolve issues within the Cloud Provider that extend beyond the VAST AI OS itself.

Root Cause Analysis: Perform thorough root cause analysis (RCA) and post-incident reviews for infrastructure-level incidents to ensure continuous improvement and platform stability.

OnPrem/Hybrid Integration: Work with customers to integrate VAST On Cloud with their existing On-Premises systems, facilitating robust Hybrid Cloud architectures.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with VAST engineering, product management, pre-sales, and professional services to elevate product features, escalate unresolved bugs, and advocate for customer-specific priorities.

Requirements

Experience: 5+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles (Customer Success, Technical Support, Cloud Engineering, or Post-Sales) working with complex cloud infrastructure, networking, or storage solutions.

Multi-Cloud Expertise: Extensive expertise with Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) like AWS, Azure, and GCP, covering instance management, operations, and the ability to quickly ramp up on any missing provider.

Cloud Networking & Security: Advanced understanding of cloud networking and security—specifically designing, deploying, and integrating cloud architectures with On-Premises systems (Hybrid Cloud).

Diagnostics Skills: Practical and demonstrable cloud networking diagnostic skills (VPC/VNet, subnets, route tables, security groups) and utilization of Linux OS utilities for client-to-cluster troubleshooting.

Scripting & Cloud CLIs: Highly skilled at creating and debugging Python scripts using cloud APIs/SDKs. Proficiency with cloud CLIs (AWS CLI/aws, Google Cloud CLI/gcloud, Azure CLI/az) and scripting (Python, Shell/Bash) for diagnostics and automation.

Linux Systems Administration: Advanced Linux systems administration experience (primarily Rocky Linux or similar Enterprise Linux distributions).

Containerization & Orchestration: Strong experience working with Docker and Kubernetes environments.

Infrastructure as Code: Practical, hands-on experience using Terraform and Ansible to deploy and manage cloud-native infrastructure.

Observability Stacks: Solid experience with observability stacks and infrastructure tools (such as Grafana and Prometheus).

Education: B.Sc. or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

Travel & Availability: * Ability to travel around 20% of the time to support customer deployments and professional services.

  • Participation in a rotational weekend shift once every 8-12 weeks and occasional holiday coverage.

Nice to Have:

  • AWS: AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional) / AWS Certified SysOps Administrator / AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
  • Azure: Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate / Azure Solutions Architect Expert

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
