About the Role: Engineer Maintenance

As our Engineer Maintenance, you will play an integral role in delivering an exceptional guest experience while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Your Impact:

Help keep The Bostonian Hotel safe, comfortable, and well maintained by completing preventive maintenance, responding promptly to repair requests, and supporting smooth daily operations for guests and employees.

What You’ll Be Doing -

Operations & Execution

  • Monitor public-space temperatures and adjust equipment and fans as needed.
  • Inspect gauges, dials, and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pumps, valves, seals, bearings, belts, and fan coil units.
  • Perform sheet metal, brazing, soldering, control calibration, pressure-vessel, and piping work within your training and authorization.
  • Repair guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas, including plumbing, lighting, furniture, hardware, painting, wall coverings, caulking, and grouting.
  • Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies.

Guest Experience

  • Respond to guest maintenance calls and temperature concerns promptly and politely.
  • Complete repairs with minimal disruption to guests.
  • Respect guest privacy and follow room-entry procedures.

Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate repairs with Engineering, Housekeeping, and Front Office.
  • Report major repairs and unresolved issues to the dispatcher for further action.
  • Coordinate placing rooms out of order when necessary.

Compliance & Standards

  • Follow hotel policies, safety standards, and maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist with shutting off steam, water, and gas supplies.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining standpipe, sprinkler, and interior fire alarm systems.
  • Keep tools and work areas clean and organized.

Requirements

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements

  • Knowledge of maintenance trades, including basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, painting, wall coverings, and carpentry.
  • Knowledge of HVAC repair and maintenance.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to operate and repair hotel equipment.
  • Skill in using hand and power tools, testing equipment.
  • Ability to identify items needing repair and respond professionally to guest and employee concerns
  • Technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building systems
  • Relevant certifications or licenses preferred

Work Schedule & Physical Requirements

  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions.
  • Work in small spaces, on ladders and walkways, and in areas with noise, vibration, and frequent interruptions, using appropriate protective equipment.
  • Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work safely with oils, solvents, paints, and chemicals.

Education

  • High school education or equivalent, or a combination of education or experience of at least three years that provides the knowledge and skills needed for the position.
  • Basic experience in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry maintenance.
  • Additional language skills desirable.
