About the Workforce Intelligence Lab (WIL)
The Workforce Intelligence Lab (WIL) is an applied workforce research initiative. WIL builds methodology-transparent workforce intelligence, including labor demand signals, occupational and credential pathways, and training-to-employment outcome measures, and works with education, employer, and labor partners to turn that evidence into grant and sponsored-project collaborations. WIL is assembling a California team to respond to the California Energy Commission's Charger Service Skills Accelerator grant solicitation (GFO-26-601). The solicitation funds training that leads to portable, industry-recognized credentials for servicing electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment: installation, commissioning, verification and testing, maintenance, repair, technical support, and decommissioning. Funded projects must provide training, collaborate with worker, employer, and educational provider partners, and offer a clear path from training to quality jobs.
Opportunity type: this is a contingent proposal opportunity in WIL's expert-collaborator network, not a funded vacancy. Applications to the CEC are due October 30, 2026; awards are competitive and none has been made. If an award proceeds, WIL may offer full-time employment or a project-based contract engagement, depending on the award and staffing model. There is no guaranteed work, and any engagement would be scoped by project. Engagements are remote-first, with travel as required for California partner and training sites. We will ask your permission before including your name or resume in any proposal.
WIL is seeking an EV charger field service technician or electrician to advise the training program on what charger service work actually requires on the job.
What you'll do
- Advise the training partner on the real job tasks of EV charger service (installation, commissioning, verification and testing, maintenance, repair, technical support, and decommissioning) for Level 2 and DC fast chargers
- Review curriculum and lab exercises against industry standards and employer needs, including electrical safety practices such as lockout/tagout
- Help define entry-level and advancement roles in charger service for the proposal's career pathway
- Advise on which credentials carry weight with employers, including EVITP, electrician certifications, and manufacturer-specific training
- Support instructor development by transferring field knowledge to instructors and curriculum developers
- Share field perspective on common failures, diagnostics, tools, and uptime practices so training reflects current equipment
- With your permission, contribute a short resume and experience summary to the proposal
Apply to be considered.
