The posting
We are seeking an experienced Master Scheduler to lead production planning and scheduling for a growing, high-precision CNC manufacturing operation in San Jose, CA.
This position plays a critical role in coordinating production across multiple machining departments, ensuring manufacturing capacity, material availability, and customer delivery commitments remain aligned.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in production planning, master scheduling, and ERP/MRP systems within a complex manufacturing environment. Experience supporting CNC machining operations, including milling, turning, and high-mix, low-volume production, is highly preferred.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility position that requires close collaboration with manufacturing leadership, engineering, purchasing, quality, and program management. We're looking for someone who can take ownership of the production schedule, anticipate constraints, and keep work moving efficiently through the shop.
What You'll Do:
- Master Production Scheduling: Develop, maintain, and manage production schedules across CNC milling, turning, and other manufacturing departments to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Capacity Planning: Evaluate machine availability, labor capacity, material readiness, and production priorities to develop realistic and achievable manufacturing schedules.
- ERP/MRP Management: Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage work orders, production schedules, material requirements, inventory, and manufacturing demand.
- Production Coordination: Work directly with manufacturing supervisors, programmers, engineering, purchasing, and quality teams to coordinate workflow and ensure production stays on schedule.
- Material Planning: Identify material shortages, purchasing constraints, and inventory issues that could impact production timelines.
- Work-in-Process Management: Monitor WIP, track job progress, identify bottlenecks, and adjust schedules to maintain efficient production flow.
- Delivery Performance: Track customer commitments, communicate potential delays, and develop recovery plans to improve on-time delivery.
- Production Meetings: Lead regular scheduling and production status meetings to review priorities, capacity constraints, and upcoming deliveries.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in production planning, master scheduling, or production control within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience working with ERP/MRP systems, production scheduling, work orders, BOMs, and material requirements planning.
- Experience scheduling production across multiple manufacturing departments, machines, or work centers.
- CNC machining or precision manufacturing experience strongly preferred, particularly in high-mix, low-volume environments.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing capacity planning, inventory management, WIP tracking, and production workflow.
- Ability to coordinate with purchasing, manufacturing, engineering, and program management to meet customer delivery commitments.
- Experience identifying production bottlenecks, managing material shortages, and adjusting schedules based on changing priorities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with new product introduction (NPI), engineering change orders (ECOs), and prototype-to-production transitions is a plus.
