The posting
Blueprint Search Group is recruiting on behalf of a growing specialty vehicle manufacturer seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator to join its production team in Deep Gap, North Carolina.
This is a hands-on fabrication position supporting the construction, modification, and customization of ambulances and emergency response vehicles. The Metal Fabricator will be responsible for fabricating, fitting, modifying, and installing metal components throughout the vehicle build process.
Previous ambulance manufacturing experience is not required. We are interested in candidates with backgrounds in metal fabrication, welding, automotive body work, collision repair, custom vehicle fabrication, trailer manufacturing, or similar skilled trades who are comfortable working with metal and producing precise, high-quality finished work.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building and modifying custom products rather than performing repetitive assembly work.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, modify, fit, and install metal components used in custom ambulances and emergency vehicles
- Measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, shape, and assemble metal materials and components
- Perform welding and fabrication work as required
- Fit fabricated components to vehicle bodies, frames, compartments, and interior/exterior assemblies
- Modify components as necessary to achieve proper fit, alignment, and functionality
- Work from measurements, drawings, templates, and fabrication instructions
- Use grinders, saws, drills, welders, hand tools, power tools, and other fabrication equipment
- Troubleshoot fitment, alignment, and fabrication challenges during the vehicle build process
- Perform finishing work to produce clean, professional-quality components and assemblies
- Inspect completed work for proper fit, alignment, strength, durability, and overall quality
- Coordinate with fabrication, assembly, electrical, paint/body, and other production personnel
- Maintain an organized, productive, and safe work area
- Follow established safety, production, and quality standards
Qualifications
- Previous experience in metal fabrication, welding, automotive body work, collision repair, manufacturing, or another related skilled trade
- Strong ability to accurately measure, cut, drill, grind, shape, and fit metal components
- Welding experience strongly preferred
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment
- Ability to work from measurements, drawings, templates, or basic fabrication plans
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability
- Ability to identify fitment and alignment issues and determine appropriate modifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finished work
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a production environment
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to maintain consistent productivity and workmanship
Relevant Experience
Candidates may come from a variety of skilled-trade backgrounds. Relevant experience may include:
- Metal fabrication
- MIG or TIG welding
- Automotive body or collision repair
- Automotive or custom vehicle fabrication
- Emergency vehicle or truck upfitting
- Trailer manufacturing or repair
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Aluminum fabrication
- RV or specialty vehicle manufacturing
- Industrial fabrication
- Custom equipment or machinery manufacturing
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a hands-on fabricator and problem solver who enjoys figuring out how components need to be built, modified, and fitted rather than simply repeating the same assembly process throughout the day.
You should be comfortable receiving a component, drawing, template, or set of measurements; determining how the component needs to fit the vehicle; and using your fabrication skills to produce a durable, precise, and professional finished product.
Candidates coming from automotive body shops or collision repair environments are especially encouraged to apply. Experience cutting, fitting, aligning, welding, grinding, modifying, and finishing vehicle components can translate very well into this position.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Work on highly customized ambulances and emergency response vehicles
- Apply fabrication skills to unique builds rather than repetitive mass-production work
- Work alongside experienced electrical, fabrication, body, assembly, and production professionals
- Opportunity to use both fabrication skills and mechanical problem-solving abilities
- Build mission-critical vehicles used by EMS professionals and first responders
- Join a hands-on manufacturing environment where fit, finish, durability, and craftsmanship matter
