The posting
We are looking for a Plumbing Estimator with direct commercial and industrial plumbing experience to take ownership of estimating and preconstruction for plumbing and process piping projects. This is a hands-on estimating role within a specialized mechanical contracting environment, requiring strong knowledge of plumbing systems, construction drawings, material takeoffs, labor requirements, and project pricing. The Estimator will help develop competitive bids and accurate project budgets while identifying scope, cost, and execution risks before work begins. Direct plumbing estimating experience is essential, particularly for commercial or industrial projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates and bids for commercial and industrial plumbing and process piping projects.
- Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs from plumbing, mechanical, and MEP drawings and specifications.
- Review project plans, specifications, scopes, and addenda to identify required plumbing work and potential scope gaps.
- Obtain and evaluate material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing to develop accurate project estimates.
- Develop detailed bid proposals, cost breakdowns, and budgets for commercial plumbing construction.
- Identify exclusions, assumptions, constructability concerns, and potential cost risks during the estimating process.
- Work with vendors, subcontractors, general contractors, engineers, and internal teams to clarify project scope and pricing.
- Review change-order opportunities and scope revisions to support accurate project pricing.
- Maintain estimating records, historical cost information, and project pricing data to improve future bids.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience estimating commercial or industrial plumbing construction projects.
- Direct experience with commercial plumbing and/or process piping estimating is required.
- Experience working for a plumbing contractor, mechanical contractor, MEP subcontractor, or similar construction company.
- Strong ability to read and interpret plumbing, mechanical, and MEP drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Experience performing detailed plumbing takeoffs and pricing labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work.
- Must have direct plumbing estimating experience; general construction or residential-only estimating experience will not be sufficient.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office; experience with relevant takeoff software is preferred.
- Strong understanding of commercial plumbing systems, construction sequencing, and project scope development.
Benefits
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience.
Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs.
