About Quandela:

Quandela is a global leader in quantum computing, designing, building, and delivering cutting-edge quantum solutions for research and industry. Its offerings include the most energy-efficient quantum computers for data centers, full-stack quantum computing solutions accessible via the cloud, and algorithm access services for academic and industrial customers. Following a pragmatic, step-by-step roadmap, Quandela has been deploying industrial-grade systems since 2023 while developing future generations of fault-tolerant quantum computers capable of scaling through the integration of thousands of photonic components. Quandela is committed to making quantum computing accessible to all in order to address the most complex industrial and societal challenges. Learn more at: Quandela | Leading Photonic Quantum Computing Solutions

Our ambition is to build large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computers. Within Scalable Architecture, we model the physical systems behind our technologies to understand their limitations and guide future designs.

About this position:

You will join our Device Physics team, which develops theoretical and numerical models of Quandela’s physical systems in close interaction with experimental teams.

You will focus on quantum dots and their phononic environment, modelling how phonon-induced noise affects our semiconductor photon sources.

Your work will range from calculating phonon spectral densities to integrating these effects into existing source models. The scientific problem and possible approaches are already identified, giving you a strong foundation from which to progressively take ownership of the topic.

-

What you'll do:

As a Quantum Information Scientist working on Quantum Dot Modelling, you will:

  • Develop numerical models of quantum dot-phonon interactions and phonon-induced noise.
  • Calculate relevant physical quantities, including phonon spectral densities, and integrate them into existing source models.
  • Apply finite-element, finite-difference and related numerical methods to semiconductor nanostructures.
  • Build and run simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics or comparable simulation platforms.
  • Validate your models against physical expectations, existing models and experimental results.
  • Develop scientific code primarily in Python, with opportunities to move toward C++ for more demanding simulations.
  • Use validated models to explore possible improvements in photon-source design and operation.

-

How you'll grow:

During your first months: Become familiar with Quandela’s quantum-dot systems and develop your first phonon simulations with support from Device Physics and experimental teams.

Within 6–12 months: integrate and validate your work within our wider modelling framework and take increasing ownership of the topic.

Longer term: Explore optimisation strategies, additional physical effects and new research directions around semiconductor quantum systems.

Requirements

What we're looking for:

We are looking for a scientist combining strong physical understanding with hands-on numerical modelling experience, ideally in semiconductor, condensed-matter or computational physics.

Direct quantum-computing experience is not required. What matters is your ability to translate a physical problem into a credible numerical model and critically assess its results.

Must-have:

  • Master’s or PhD in Physics, Photonics, Semiconductor Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Computational Physics or a closely related field.
  • Strong foundations in semiconductor, condensed-matter or related quantum physics.
  • Hands-on experience modelling physical systems numerically.
  • Experience with FEM, finite-difference or related numerical methods, ideally using COMSOL Multiphysics or comparable simulation tools.
  • Python for scientific modelling and data analysis.
  • Ability to understand the physics behind a simulation, challenge its assumptions and validate its results.
  • Ability to collaborate with both theoretical and experimental researchers.
  • Professional English.

Important, but you can grow here:

  • Quantum-dot or semiconductor nanostructure modelling.
  • Phonon physics and phonon-induced noise.
  • Experience with multiphysics or electromagnetic simulation tools, including Ansys or Lumerical.
  • C++ for scientific computing.
  • Scientific or quantum-modelling packages such as QuTip.

Bonus:

  • Phonon engineering.
  • Modelling of charge, nuclear-spin or other semiconductor noise mechanisms.
  • Experience connecting numerical models with experimental measurements.
  • Quantum-information knowledge and an understanding of how physical noise impacts quantum computation.

We are open to strong Master’s-level profiles with substantial hands-on research experience in numerical modelling. You do not need expertise across every layer of the problem.

Benefits

Join a research team where theoretical and numerical work directly feeds into experiments and hardware development.

  • Work on a concrete scientific problem connected to Quandela’s semiconductor photon sources.
  • Collaborate closely with theorists and experimental physicists.
  • Progressively build scientific ownership as your models become part of Quandela’s wider modelling framework.
  • Contribute to publications, conferences and new research directions.

Plus:

  • Competitive compensation aligned with your experience and level of responsibility.
  • Company savings plan.
  • 100% health coverage through Alan.
  • Transport reimbursement or sustainable mobility bonus.
  • Swile meal vouchers.
  • Access to Gymlib.

Process

  • Talent Acquisition interview, 30–45 min
  • Scientific interview with members of the team
  • Discussion of your previous research and numerical-modelling experience
  • Technical scientific discussion
  • Reference checks
  • Final discussion with the team
  • Offer

The scientific discussions are intended to understand how you approach a physical modelling problem, choose appropriate numerical methods, assess assumptions and connect simulation results with a real physical system.

Beyond that: If you enjoy using numerical modelling to understand real physical systems and seeing that work feed into experiments, this role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise in semiconductor quantum systems while progressively taking ownership of the topic.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
