We are looking for a Sr Database Engineer to own the day-to-day operation of our database estate. Our production services run on MongoDB and Amazon DocumentDB, with PostgreSQL and DynamoDB alongside them, and our reporting data lands in Apache Iceberg tables on S3 that we query through Amazon Redshift. You will be the owner of everything that keeps that estate healthy and moving: pre-deployment migrations, upgrades, query performance, customer data requests, backup and recovery, and incident response.

This is an operations-first role. You will work alongside our senior database architect, who leads our data platform projects, and take full ownership of the run work so the whole team can move faster. We want someone who thinks before they change something: you read the release notes before a MongoDB upgrade and know which application queries it could break, and you find the slow query and fix the index before a customer notices. This is an on-call role.

Key Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day operations across MongoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Amazon Redshift, including health checks, capacity, connections, and storage growth.

• Plan and execute database version upgrades, assessing driver compatibility, deprecated features, and query behavior changes against application code before anything reaches production.

• Find and fix slow queries by profiling workloads and reading explain plans, then design, add, or retire indexes based on real query patterns.

• Run pre-deployment schema and data migrations for each release, with pre-checks, verification of the result, and a tested rollback.

• Manage versioned database migrations in Git (Liquibase, Flyway, or equivalent), reviewed through pull requests and applied through CI with GitHub Actions.

• Handle customer data requests, including extracts, reports, corrections, and deletion requests, with the right approvals and an audit trail.

• Maintain reporting access in Redshift over Iceberg tables in S3 (external schemas, Spectrum, Glue Data Catalog), including views, grants, and query performance.

• Own backup, point-in-time restore, and failover. Rehearse restores on a schedule and document them so anyone on the team can run them.

• Manage database access, including users, roles, grants, secrets rotation, and access reviews that hold up to SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits.

• Build and tune monitoring and alerting for query latency, replication lag, disk, connections, and cost.

• Respond to database incidents, lead root-cause analysis, and follow through on the fixes.

• Automate repetitive DBA work with Python or Bash so the operational load shrinks over time.

• Work closely with Development, Customer Success, the ML team, and DevSecOps on releases, installations, and customer escalations.

• Participate in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

• 5+ years of experience administering production databases.

• Hands-on production experience with MongoDB or Amazon DocumentDB, including replica sets, indexing, TTL, and upgrades.

• Hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL.

• Strong SQL and experience with Amazon Redshift or a comparable analytical query engine (Athena, Trino, Snowflake, or BigQuery).

• A track record of production database upgrades, including assessing application impact before the upgrade.

• Index design and query tuning driven by profiler and explain plan output.

• Experience running schema and data migrations as part of a release process.

• Backup, restore, and replication in production, with recovery that has actually been tested.

• Strong experience with AWS database and supporting services (RDS or Aurora, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch).

• Proficiency in Python or Bash for automation.

• Experience with Git and CI-based change workflows.

• Experience handling PII and customer data under SOC 2, GDPR, or similar requirements.

• A habit of verifying: you confirm the result of a change rather than assuming it, and you write the runbook before it is needed.

• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.

• Remote, based in India.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Athena, or other open table formats on S3.

• Experience with Liquibase or Flyway specifically.

• Experience with MongoDB Atlas.

• Exposure to Kafka or change data capture pipelines.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and Terraform (enough to read a plan and run database tooling in a cluster).

• Experience in identity, fraud prevention, or another regulated SaaS product.

• MongoDB or AWS database certifications.

Benefits

• Cutting-Edge Tech Stack: Build with decentralized identity protocols, FedRamp High, FIDO2-certified cryptography, and NIST-compliant biometric systems.

• Accelerated Growth: Receive annual stipends for certifications and attend key conferences.

• Ownership & Impact: We move fast and will enable you to make a big impact with large customers in US & Canada.

• Flexibility First: Unlimited PTO and fully remote work.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
